Concert Report: KC And The Sunshine Band (Hard Rock Tampa)

Haven't visited the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa since decades ago when it was just an unsophisticated one room casino without even a hotel. It's come a long way, baby!

We were in town for the KC and the Sunshine Band concert taking place in the Hard Rock Event Center.

The band stand was all set-up when we entered. And look at that silver thing at the top of the photo!

It's a shiny disco ball so you know the place is legit!

The crowd kind of reminded me of my high school reunion last summer. Lots of old people!

And at 8:15PM, there they were: KC and the Sunshine Band (USA).

They would open with "(Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty" (1976) followed by "Boogie Shoes" (1978).

"Please Don't Go" (1979) was the first number one hit of the 1980's on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was followed last night by "I'm Your Boogie Man" (1977). You couldn't turn on the radio during the mid-to-late 70's and not hear a KC and the Sunshine Band song playing.

Before KC had broken-out as a star in his own right, he was a song writer and last nigh he played his first written #1 song, "Rock Your Baby" (1974) which was a hit for vocalist George McCrae (USA).

KC mentioned about his noticeable size and weight increases, joking that he was considering changing the name of the band to "KFC and the Sunshine Band".

"Keep It Comin' Love" (1977)  and "Give It Up" (1983).

A quick circle through the crowd with many hugs given by his fans. KC and the Sunshine Band was considered a pioneer of the Disco music genre.

Not sure how many this arena seats but it was a full house.

Singing "That's The Way I Like It" (1975) as his twenty-something self played on the background screen.

We last saw KC and the Sunshine Band back in February, 2011 when they played on the outdoor stage at Universal Studios Florida as part of the "Mardi Gras Concert Series" that year as shown in this file photo. So it was amazing to get to see them again last night.

"Get Down Tonight" (1975) was KC and the Sunshine Band's first #1 hit.

Nothing spectacular last night but just a damn good show delivered full of nostalgia. We'll certainly hear most of these tunes again at the World's Largest Disco event in November. OEN will provide full coverage from Buffalo.

Last night, a good time was had by all.
