PI Update: Loco Motion

Looking back 10 years ago to February, 2011 and the demolition of club Motion and Rock'N'Roll Beach Club. The upstairs of Motion contained the hidden offices of Levy Restaurants.

Water view of Pleasure Island with RRBC out of the way. They didn't know it at the time because plans were not finalized but Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar would end up here along with the Waterview Stage.

And the Motion spot would become home to The Boathouse restaurant.

It was necessary to demolish Motion because Disney intended to create a pedestrian pathway in this alleyway area between Raglan Road on the left and Portobello Country Italian Restaurant on the right. At the time there was concern that many guests skipped going to the West Side due to perceived difficulty getting there across Pleasure Island. A "Motion Corridor" was needed.

Breaking News: Daft Punk Breaks Up

Breaking news this morning as famed DJ duo / producers Daft Punk (F) are calling it quits after decades in the business. More details at Rolling Stone Magazine here.

Concert Report: Sundown Sundays (The Patio)

DJ Harvy Valencia (CO) headlined this weekend's edition of "Sundown Sundays" at The Patio and our sister website Orlando Entertainment News was there. The pictures are here.

Downtown Update: What's New?

We were hoping this prime spot on Church Street was going to reopen as a club but apparently not. Most recently home to Schumann's Jager Haus and before that, club Dragon Room, the place will reopen as Seychelles Sea Food & Steak House Restaurant. It's adjacent the upscale Kress Chop House so it will be in good company.

Not sure what's going on with the spot formerly occupied by Avenue Gastropub along Orange Avenue. Their website and Facebook pages are still operational but the place is definitely shuttered. Clubbers will remember the spot as the all-white decor Senso Supperclub and before that, Zinc Bar. Big name international DJ's played at both predecessors.

The Taco Bell Cantina has finally opened for business at the corner of Orange Avenue and Central Blvd. It differs from a regular Taco Bell in that they serve beer and wine until 2AM. I guess this is considered a novel concept since you can get beer and wine at McDonald's in many countries outside the United States. But for here, salud!

Finally, this upstairs spot also on Orange Avenue is now home to Tattoo Bar. The venue is aptly named since there is a tattoo parlor at the front of the club. This was most recently named The Office and before that, Stygma. A tattoo parlor has been there through all these names.

DS Update: Portillo's Opens Next Month!

In a Blog article in October, 2019, we told you about Chicago-based Portillo's opening a new restaurant in Lake Buena Vista not far from Disney Springs. Well that restaurant is nearing completion and opening day is set for March 2nd. More details about them in the original Blog article here.

PI Update: 8TRAX Reunion @ Retro Room

Shortly after the Pleasure Island clubs closed, a curious new bar opened along US 192 not far from Walt Disney World. It was dedicated to 70's Disco & 80's Funk, similar to what had been played at 8TRAX. And that venue was called Retro Room.

So later this month but 10 years ago Save Pleasure Island Blog hosted a 70's Disco night at Retro Room.

And it featured former 8TRAX DJ Pete Haynes (USA) delivering the good stuff.

The bar was packed!

The dance floor drew a crowd!

The peeps were getting down!

8TRAX regular Dawn was in the club!

 

As was former 8TRAX door host Thommy!

70's line dances.

Retro Room always drew a crowd.

Doing the "Bump".

And of course the "YMCA". Sadly, Retro Room eventually closed down but while it operated, a good time was always had by all.
