Club Reports: Proper, Attic Nightclub, The Robinson, Oliv Bar, Good Times Bar & Grill, The Vanguard

After last weekend away in the Bahamas, it was great to be back in Orlando so we made the most of it! We began the evening downtown at Proper.

Every Friday is "Strictly R&B" at Proper and we walked into this.

 

DJ Harana (USA) was playing during our visit.

It wasn't even 10PM yet and the VIP areas were already seeing some activity.

There are two bars at Proper including this front bar adjacent the open-air patio.

While the back bar brings new meaning to the term "top shelf liquor".

We heard some classics in there from DJ Harana, all of the songs with vocals. They advertise the night as "No Rap, No Trap, No Top 40, Strictly R&B".  You can get free admission with a free cocktail by obtaining your advance ticket HERE.

Proper does have a shiny disco ball so you know the place is legit.

It's been a few years since we last visited Attic Nightclub but it was on our radar last night.

Last night was "Sorry For Party Rocking" Night, a ticketed event. We walked into this.

We found DJ Alex Chang (USA) in the booth playing Pop & EDM hits from 2010-2015 but they ranged far-wider than just that era.

It wasn't even 10:30PM yet but the crowd was growing. We heard songs like "Hollaback Girl", "Feel So Close" and "Mr. Saxobeat".

DJ Kevin Conn (USA) would come on next during our visit and the two DJ's would take turns all night.

He played hits such as "We Found Love", "Deep Down Low" and "Ghosts 'n' Stuff".

Attic Nightclub has not one but two shiny disco balls so you know the place is legit.

Directly across Pine Street from Attic is The Robinson.

We climbed the stairs into their main room and walked into this.

While you can hear the music in the main room, the fun takes place in their Disco Room.

In here we found DJ Krybtonite (USA) playing EDM & House music.

Damn! We hadn't seen Krybtonite play since 2013 at Firestone Live!

When they open the curtains the bar crowd slowly drifts in.

The adjoining pool room was busy too.

Shift change at 11:30PM.

With Friday night resident DJ Chino (USA) taking over.

Dance floor got packed for his House & EDM set.

Friday nights are always a good time at The Robinson. Admission is free.

They have multiple shiny disco balls so you know the place is legit.

Moving from downtown to uptown, our next stop was Oliv Bar.

It's the little club with the big club inside and we walked into this.

Upon arrival, we found DJ Dani Orieta (USA) in the booth.

House music all night long.

You never know what you're going to run into at Oliv Bar but last night the place was packed.

DJ Kris Kokopelli (USA) would take over shortly after our arrival.

He would continue with House music. DJ Dave Cannalte (USA) plays at Oliv tonight.

Full liquor bar here too but we forgot to check to see if they had a shiny disco ball. Nonetheless, the place IS legit.

We next headed north a few exits along I-4 to Good Times Bar & Grill.

The first edition of the new "Substance" was in session and we walked into this.

Led by DJ Smilin' Dan (USA).

The music a mix of New Wave & Alternative like we hear at Barbarella and Industrial & Goth like we hear at Memento Mori. 

It was hard to get pics in all the fog.

DJ Lavidicus (USA) returns here to Good Times with his dark "Abyss" show next Friday, October 3rd. And there will also be a special Halloween edition here too on Saturday, October 31st. Wear your favorite color, as long as your favorite color is black!

Not even 1AM yet so we had time for one more stop. We headed back into DTO to visit The Vanguard.

We walked into this!

One of the things we hate about Vanguard is the darkness and fog that is nearly always maintained in here. And the DJ booth is typically set so far back that our flash bulb doesn't capture the DJ. The second opener was still on: DJ Tricade (USA) when we arrived.

Dance floor was packed.

And then right at 1AM, there he was, the headliner.....

DJ Nicky Romero (NL)

Place went crazy! And they would sing many of the EDM hits he was playing such as "Remedy", "Titanium" and "Messy".

"Romero" is just his DJ name. He's not Spanish or Italian though; his real last name is "Rotteveel". No wonder he changed it.

At the beginning of the EDM boom Nicky Romero was everywhere. DJMag readers voted him the #7 DJ in the world in 2013 and #8 in 2014 but we've not heard a lot of mention of him since then. Indeed, don't think he's played Orlando since 2012 when he played at Vain (which is now Celine).

The Vanguard does have a shiny disco ball so you know the place is legit. Many of the world's top DJ's play here such as DJ duo Cosmic Gate (D) tonight and Gareth Emery (GB) on October 17th. Advance tickets here.
