When we began our Friday night, we didn't know we'd be visiting 6 different venues. But that's how it ended up. We began in DTO at Proper which is located in the prior Vyce spot. |
Since our last visit the DJ booth has been moved all the way to the rear. It used to be along that left wall about two thirds of the way back and it no longer faces sideways. |
The DJ now has full command of the room. The club is still relatively new, having opened in April, 2023. During the first year the DJ's had to play off vinyl only but that is no longer the case here. |
The music last night during our visit was Hip Hop and Soul. |
And with the booth no longer here, the seating area is now all together instead of being separated. |
Proper has two bar areas. This aft bar brings new meaning to the term "top shelf liquor". |
The other bar up front faces the entrance and patio. |
Proper has a shiny disco ball so you know the place is legit. |
We next headed over to Sessions, a brand new DTO venue that opened this past November in the previous home of The Crow and Ghost Bar prior to that. |
It's still a 2-floor venue but beautifully renovated. |
We found DJ Phoenix Jagger (USA) in the booth when we arrived. |
House music all night long. |
Joined here by DJ Derek Fereal (USA) who had played at Sessions on Thursday night. |
It was still early but not that many people here during our visit. |
They have many shiny disco balls so you know the place is legit. |
We next left downtown and headed to uptown and Oliv Bar. |
It's a small room and there was a decent crowd on hand. And as more and more promoters are booking events here, more and more people are discovering it! |
In the booth we found DJ Dani Orieta (BOL/USA) playing House, joined for this photo by resident DJ Sachin Talikot (IND/USA). |
DJ Nun (USA) would take over moments later. |
Small room but we ran into numerous people we know from the local scene. |
Alfie's HiFi had their opening weekend last week and during our prior visits we found the place to be pretty amazing. Located in the Mills/50 district, we had to go back! |
It's located in the former home to St. Matthew's Tavern. The front room has this large bar plus that new color-changing light fountain. |
Heading back towards the dance floor, bedlam! |
The booth is located back here too and here we found DJ Frankmatik (USA). |
This is an all-vinyl club and the music is House. |
The club has fully stocked shelves but most DJ's bring their own crates too. |
The main dance floor is right up against the booth but the DJ had people bouncing everywhere. |
House music all night long. |
Frankmatik is joined by Dani Orieta on Saturday, Febrary 15th at the Altira Pool atop the Grand Bohemian Hotel downtown. That show will run from 2:30PM to 8:30PM. |
We next headed over to the Lake Eola district for a first-ever visit to The Falcon. |
It's a good-size room and all the bar spots were occupied. |
The DJ booth is up front and here we found DJ Smilin' Dan (USA). |
All vinyl here too last night with Smilin' Dan playing mostly 80's New Wave, Alternative and Industrial. |
Spotted working at the bar: Rain. Spotted drinking at the bar: Ryan. We know both from Independent Bar and Barbarella 2.0. |
Spotted outside the bar: Hector. We know him from Ace Cafe and The Hammered Lamb. |
The Falcon is a quirky art bar with the ever-changing decor available for purchase. |
Just one couple dancing during our visit. |
One final stop since we were in the area. It was "Gimme Gimme Disco" night at The Abbey. |
"Gimme Gimme Disco" night occurs 3-4 times per year and features mostly 70's Disco. |
DJ Mike (USA) was the moderator last night delivering the good stuff. |
Each time we've visited GGD they have a different DJ hosting. |
Abba (S) songs included "Dancing Queen" and event namesake "Gimme Gimme Gimme" but there are other non-Abba songs too. |
With 70's styles so big right now, it's not hard to fit right into this genre. |
Not quite the size crowd we saw at the end of November at the World's Largest Disco in Buffalo, but this group was having just as much fun! LINK Because everybody loves the 70's! |
Guys, each time we've come to this event, the crowd is about 75% female! |
Everywhere we went last night, a good time was had by all. |
