Trip Report: Cairo, Egypt

Visiting Egypt aboard the small cruise ship Celestyal Crystal doing their "3 Continents" itinerary.
Docked at the Mediterranean port of Alexandria, it was a long bus ride to Cairo.

Upon arrival in Cairo, crossing the famed Nile River.

First stop The Egyptian Museum

Thuya is believed to be the great grandmother of King Tut. She was married to Yuya.

Thuya's unwrapped mummy. The body is remarkably preserved considering her age is thousands of years old. She is in this climate-controlled display case.

There is a room dedicated completely to King Tut but no photos were allowed in there.

 Solid gold burial masks.

After lunch, the tour continued into Cairo's western suburb of Giza. All of a sudden, there they were!

The road actually travels directly between two of the pyramids.

The Sahara Desert is the world's largest desert and runs all the way across north Africa from the Atlantic Ocean to Cairo. From this vantage point all 3 large pyramids can been seen plus a couple smaller ones.

 Absolutely amazing!

The Sphinx is here too.

 Camel train passing by.

Late in the day, the winds picked up and a sand storm moved in, obliterating the view from below. It was time to head back to the ship and a good time was had by all.
