Club Report: Spaceballs The Party

It's Halloween Party season and last night we were invited up to Orlando's northern suburbs for a party themed on the 1987 film "Spaceballs".

It was hosted by Emily and DJ Gregory B (USA). Emily was spotted here in the kitchen with her son.

Party was packed with mostly space invaders. In the family room we spotted a spooky trivia game being delivered by quiz game show specialist Curtis Earth.

There was food galore and plenty of drink choices.

The background music provided by DJ Kimball Collins (USA) Twitch show feed.

Lots of friends in attendance from the scene that kept us chatting into the wee hours. Thank you so much for the invite and a thoroughly amazing party. A good time was had by all.

Trip Report: The Only Standard Station in Florida

This past Tuesday we took a quick trip to beautiful downtown West Palm Beach. And while we were in town, we made a quick side trip.
Our destination, the only Standard gas station in Florida. Last month we had an article about how the former Standard Oil Company of California changed their name to Chevron.  But in order to keep their Standard trademarks alive and not have some other oil company claim they were abandoned, they operate one Standard branded station in each state they do business in where they have the legal right to use the Standard name.

In our article last month we had come across the only Standard station in Nevada which is in Las Vegas. Doing some sleuthing, we found out that the only Standard station in Florida is on US 1 in Lake Worth Beach (formerly Lake Worth). So as long as we were in the area, we had to go see it!

Interestingly, the plastic pump toppers at this station had Chevron on them, not Standard. And so did the pumps themselves.

You'd have to zoom-in but most (but not all) of the pump toppers at the Standard station in Nevada had Standard on them.

If you're ever in Palm Beach County, check out the only Standard station in Florida located at 610 S. Dixie Highway in Lake Worth Beach!

PI Update: We Found The Missing Link!

The Missing Link Sausage Company that is. It was located along Hill Street directly across from the upstairs doors of Mannequins. It was a fast food restaurant, or as Disney liked to call it, a "quick serve" restaurant. The smell of burgers grilling around midnight filled the air and invited hunger. They typically closed around 1AM so we'd like to go there just before then to get a bag of french fries to soak-up the drinks. So good! The building was heavily renovated to become the full service restaurant Paradiso 37

EDC Update: Stage Flyers Have Now Dropped

When EDC-Orlando was first announced this year and ticket sales commenced, the artists performing were lumped all-together in alphabetical order with not much other detail.

In August they posted the different days of EDC weekend that each artist was going to perform. With this announcement, single day passes went on sale and if you could not attend all three days of the weekend, you could narrow down your choice based on who was playing each day.

And now finally, with just a few weeks to go, we have the stage assignments! The kineticFIELD stage is considered the main stage of EDC with many of the biggest names playing here.

The circuitGROUNDS stage is considered the secondary main stage and skews towards Dubstep & Heavy Bass but not always.

The neonGARDEN stage skews towards Techno.

You never know what you're going to hear at the stereoBLOOM stage. This year it looks likely House on Friday, mostly EDM on Saturday and a mix of Bass + Drum & Bass on Sunday.

The Casa Bacardi stage was a new addition to EDC-Orlando last year and was primarily Latin House. This year could be the same with a bit more House. Like last year, apparently no "Art Car" stages this year and no Corona Beach stage either. Of course, as they say, the most important headliner of all is YOU! Ticket information HERE.

Club Reports: 18 South, Terrace On The Square, O'Malley's Alley (Ocala), Barbarella 3.0 (Winter Park)

This is the historic Downtown Square in Ocala. When we realized the last time we visited Ocala nightclubs was back in 2014 to see DJ Icey (USA) play, we knew we were way overdue for a visit. It appears Ocala's large mega clubs such as Zanzabar, Cloud 9Graffiti Beach and Platforms are long gone. Instead, we visited several smaller clubs that are all located on or near this Square.

We began at 18 South located at an address with the same name.

DJ Dwade (USA) was in the booth when we first arrived.

House music in Ocala. Who knew?

Like most of the bars here, the "room" is long and narrow.

It was pretty crowded already and would get even more so later. The tables up front get removed to create a dance floor.

There were 15-20 minute sets with one half of DJ duo Akai Seven (USA) taking over next.

More great House. The other half of the duo, DJ KJ of K5 (USA), was playing last night in Orlando. A third DJ, DJ MAXSPL (USA) of Gainesville, was also alternating last night.

Located directly across the street from the Downtown Square, The Terrace On The Square is on the second floor of the Hilton Garden Inn and overlooks the Square below.

Here we found DJay Woodz (USA) in the booth.

The music a mix of Hip Hop, Latin and Top 40 hits.

There was a crowd dancing.

Both the inside and outside bars were jammed last night.

Ocala is at the State Road 40 level so it can get pretty cold up here in winter and we're guessing the party takes place inside on the colder nights. (Orlando is at the State Road 50 level; Tampa at the State Road 60 level.)

We next went to O'Malleys Alley.

Our tourguide last night was event promoter Kyle Myers, located at the bottom of these stairs all the way back. We followed him through the long, narrow Irish bar upstairs and out the rear door to these stairs, wondering all along where the heck he was leading us!

At the bottom we found this huge outdoor area with a large bar and music.

They had a DJ out here too playing EDM but he didn't want his photo taken or give his name. Like, huh? What entertainer doesn't want to promote his/her brand? Anyway, they do have dwarf wrestling out here on occasion so if you're ever in Ocala, look them up. Big thanks to Kyle for this Ocala club tour!

The night was still young so we headed back to O-town and specifically Barbarella 3.0 located inside The Axe Trap on Lee Road at I-4 in Winter Park.

The third Saturday of every month is "Memento Mori" night.

DJ Lavidicus (USA) was in the booth playing the darker genres such as Industrial, Dark Wave, Synthpop and more!

Didn't mean to cut him off: Lighting/Sound Tech Ernie.

As 1AM passed-by, still a good crowd on the dance floor.

You can never go wrong with Goth girls: Leona with friend.

You can never go wrong with Goth girls: Susan

You can never go wrong with Goth girls: Alison with DJ Rob Bates (USA).

Barbarella has a shiny disco ball so you know they're legit.

It was fun to visit Ocala. Gainesville, Jacksonville and Daytona, we're coming for you soon. Everywhere we went last night, a good time was had by all.
