| Following the Final Night, 8TRAX remained dormant as a club although it served as a merchandise storage location for the nearby Curl by Sammy Duval store. But as Downtown Disney was converted to Disney Springs, Mannequins and 8TRAX received heavy renovations and one of our readers provided this and several other photos of the 8TRAX interior being torn-up. | Every Pleasure Island regular had an Annual Pass which cost around $55+tax per year. When PI closed, passholders were refunded an amount equal to the time remaining on their AP. And then Universal CityWalk made a brilliant move. They turned your PI Annual Pass into a CW Annual Pass. From the time of PI's closing near the end of September, 2008 until the end of March, 2009, one could obtain what amounted to free admission to the CityWalk clubs. |
CityWalk at the time was a very similar operation to Pleasure Island in that there were 7 clubs plus a variety of restaurant options. CityWalk's attempt to grab PI regulars with this offer was smart but they failed to realize CW had very little in common, overall, with PI. Yes, both The Groove and Red Coconut Club replicated club Motion but there was nothing like PI's most iconic club, Mannequins. There was nothing like 8TRAX. There was nothing like PI's two comedy clubs. Pleasure Islanders were there for the taking but then the music drove us away. Fail.
Rumor has it that Universal's new theme park, Epic Universe, will itself have a nightclub district. The winding down of the current CityWalk may in part have to do with a new location opening. (The Groove turned into escape rooms, Red Coconut turned into private event space, Latin Quarter turned into a restaurant.) So here's to hope of great things to come!

| We've previously reported on the permanent closure of CityWalk's Red Coconut Club during Covid19. When things began reopening, RCC did not except perhaps for private events. However, during Halloween Horror Nights last year we saw RCC reopen temporarily as the Dead Coconut Club and during the Christmas season, we saw them reopen temporarily as the Green and Red Coconut Club. Well now that Universal is going to begin celebrating Mardi Gras, RCC has been (temporarily) rebranded again, this time as the Cursed Coconut Club! |

| I ran across this photo from 2010 taken on Pleasure Island in what was called the Lily Pad and is now Riverboat Square. We're looking at the cheerleader team from the University of Minnesota and what jumped out at me were the tall Uggs boots worn by many of the female cheerleaders. It reminded me how big they were then and the trend lasted for close to a decade more. But they are definitely not "in" right now and I'm not sure what we would find out there currently on a chilly winter evening. |
Next weekend gonna be crazy but this coming weekend things are a bit calmer!

| Remembering Retro Room Bar this morning, that place on US192 with a Clermont address but actually in what should be called West Kissimmee. Ten years ago in February it was home to an 8TRAX Reunion event. |

| Even when there was no reunion, Retro Room was home to this partly lighted dance floor and a music format that was similar to 8TRAX with 70's Disco and 80's Funk. |

| It the post-Pleasure Island era, it was a great place to hang out. It lasted at least 5 years before petering out and getting sold. It still operates as a bar with music but the music, from what I can tell, is more on the Hip Hop side. I believe, in my opinion, it went downhill when they opened a kitchen in the place and the smell of grease permeated the air. |

| Long after the demise of the Adventurers Club, the Adventure Club Cart was brought back and stood between the former club and Paradiso 37. Yes, it was the "Adventure" Club Cart, not "Adventurers" Club Cart. It later got moved to a spot between the former AC and the former BET Soundstage building. |
