Club Reports: The Crow, Wall Street Plaza, Sly Fox Bar

Another really slow night in downtown Orlando; I think everyone was somewhere else watching the Fight.  But on I must go beginning things at new venue The Crow.

DJ Chris Tavi was in the new booth location spinning Hip Hop but they promise House music is coming soon on Saturday nights as the venue morphs into "Phoenix Underground".

No one was dancing on the ample floor space but the bar had a crowd.  The Crow is located on Pine Street where Ghost Bar used to be.  Not sure what happened to Eddie the friendly ghost that used to live in this building.

DJ Miss Jennifer (USA) will have a monthly Saturday night residency in here beginning in a few weeks!  Looking forward to that!

Dropped by Wall Street Plaza for some early Cinco de Mayo festivities which included a live outside band and mechanical bull riding.

Fail. (But looked good doing so!)

Finally got a chance to check out this other new venue, Sly Fox Bar.  It's owned by one of the former owners of Bar-BQ-Bar across the street.

The DJ was playing Deep House.

Excellent beer specials in here are the draw as is this wall full of 70's-era beer cans!

This is located where Dive Bar used to be. We'll see how this plays out but they got to get people dancing!

Club Reports: Independent Bar, Native Social Bar, Suite B Lounge, Vyce Lounge

Downtown Orlando kind of dead last night for a Friday.  Started my tour at Independent Bar.

Usually only go to I-Bar on Saturday nights for 80's New Wave but didn't want to miss DJ CJ spinning Indie Pop.

Dance floor moderately populated.

But nothing like we see in here on typical nights.

Moving next over to Native Social Bar over on Church Street.

DJ Nick Fury at the controls spinning mostly current and old Hip Hop.

Native refers to Orlando and Florida natives, not American Indians.

Fairly crowded in here last night but no one was dancing.

Suite B Lounge is Orlando's home to Breakbeats!

DJ Leilani in the booth spinning Breaks and House.

Just a few on the dance floor though.

Although you can never go wrong with Go Go girls!

Final stop on the tour; Vyce Lounge.

Arrived to find veteran DJ Carlos Mendoza in the booth spinning House.

Not empty in here either but nothing like we typically see in here on Fridays.

People kind of dance wherever in here!

I've heard you can never go wrong with Go Go girls!

The music a mix of House and Tech House.

The dresses were short and the heels were tall!

This picture supports the Blog's official position that low rise jeans are superior to high rise jeans.  A good time was had by all!

PI Update: Let's Tour Our Island

Let's tour Pleasure Island and see what's new.  At BET Soundstage and Adventurers Club, no apparent changes when viewed from the water.

But that open door on the land side at BET is an indication that something is going on inside.

And all that construction refuse in front of AC is an indication that some activity is taking place inside here too!

At Paradiso 37, construction of that new outdoor patio deck continues.

At the Hangar, composition of the roof is taking an unexpected turn.

Cedar shakes?  Not your typical aircraft hangar.

Construction of the new Pleasure Island The Landing water taxi dock continues.

It's not slated to open until this summer.

A restored Italian water taxi at The Boathouse will be offering lake tours.

Patio dining and drinking in this ideal weather is offered.

Good crowd on hand enjoying the new Dockside Bar at The Boathouse.

In the Marketplace, Dockside Margaritas opened last Thursday.

Light acoustical entertainment is offered afternoons and evenings.

Back on the Island, the imposing Mannequins going through renovations.

Pretty sure it will reopen as a dance club.  :-)

So that a good time can be had by all.

Just as Pleasure Island used to have historical marker signs that described the history of each building on the Island, The Landing is getting these historical friezes depicting the area's railroad, nautical and aeronautical past. This one is located along Hill Street above the entrance to the service corridor that once was Mannequins' smokers patio door.

Above the other end of that same service corridor, another frieze depicts an old single engine airplane with two maintenance workers looking at the prop.  Perhaps this is related to the nearby Hangar.  Come on out and see it all for yourself!
