Club Reports: Independent Bar, The Patio, Patio II, Aero Bar, Suite B Lounge, Treehouse, Attic

With my Miami trip last weekend, overdue for an obligatory Saturday night visit to Independent Bar!
DJ Indie John in the booth spinning 80's New Wave/Old Wave!
As with a lot of downtown last night, not empty but not packed either.
But the music always draws a wide-ranging audience!
Meanwhile back behind I-Bar, The Patio is the reincarnation of former club Eye Spy.
DJ Parry spinning Top 40 and Hip Hop from the club's new booth!
Crowded but not packed on this Easter Eve.
The draw here is that you're actually dancing outside under the stars!
Spotted: SarahK and Renee. Renee's locally-based Love & Leather necklaces are totally cool and so popular that they're sold at Urban Outfitters!

Besides the new DJ booth, The Patio has been redecorated with a "graffiti" look!
In the back room of The Patio, DJ Geebo putting out a Hip Hop set of his own!
This is the room that becomes Washington HiFi on Thursday nights.
No Deep House last night though.
Climbing the stairs here takes you to the rooftop home of Aero Bar, formerly Sky60.

With resident DJ's Cliff T and Dominick Morrison!
Now this place was packed!
House / Dance all night long!
And it's another open-air venue!
Suite B Lounge is Orlando's home of Breaks but last night it was dedicated to House.
Found DJ Avlish putting out non-commercial House music.
Not particularly crowded in here though last night.
Spotted by the door: Shawn Fenn, DJ Fusion aka BobMan, Kyle Myers & Solo.
Really good music!
Third visit to Treehouse.
Climb the tree and step inside!
You grab a drink and then chill-out on the grass floor!
No DJ, just taped music.  First visit was Hip Hop, last time it was Blue Grass.  Last night the music was a Minimal mix!  But open that door at the rear.....
And step into The Attic!  No Downtempo in here!
Hard to do pictures in the club's haze but it was packed!
The music all commercial House/Dance!
A good time was had by all!

Club Reports: The Attic, Club Epic

The Attic is typically an admission-free night club that gets packed on weekend nights but occasionally they bring in "name" DJ's and charge admission.
Such was the case last night with DJ Kris Barman aka Wuki (USA) taking over the controls around 12:45AM this morning.
Despite the cover charge, place was packed anyway!
The place is not that large to begin with and it can get close to impassable in there!
I had seen him play last Friday night in Miami at Mekka where it was strictly Breakbeats.  Last night to a different kind of audience he was mixing Breaks with small amounts of Classic Hip Hop hits.
Confetti bomb!
Don't really know that this audience "got it".
I would say that most of them had never experienced Breakbeats before and struggled to dance to it.  Just my impression but I was only in there for a half hour.
Moved over to Club Epic instead!
DJ Jimmy Joslin (USA) behind the decks when I arrived!
Now this was a crowd that DID understand the Breaks!
Not packed like we saw here for the Baby Anne concert in February but definitely not empty either.
Spotted: DJ Icey (USA) with one of the club's owners.
Continuing the theme of the night, DJ Sandy (USA)!
Fine-looking group of veteran breakers!
Lots of movement down on the floor!
Spotted: DJ Vitamin C hitting on the shots girl!
DJ Jimmy Joslin & DJ Sandy are known for their years packing the Sunday night SIN at House of Blues in Downtown Disney West Side!
Spotted: Event organizer and promoter Pete Manos visiting with DJ Sandy after his set.
You can never go wrong with Go Go girls!
A good time was had by all!

Trader Sam's Opens

Fans of the Adventurers Club at Pleasure Island should be really excited by the long-anticipated opening of Trader Sam's Grog Grotto at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.  The official opening date has not been announced but they will be in soft opening status this weekend and they've already been open for unofficial business this past week per Blog reader Shawn Tucker!
This is what it looks like per the Disney Parks Blog.
Because rum shots are never a bad thing!  Parking can be a problem if you're not staying at the Resort or have an ADR there.  If you have access to parking at the Magic Kingdom parking lot, it's easy enough to walk to the Polynesian from the TTC or take the monorail there. Breaking News: Morimoto Cancelled, Mannequins To Reopen!

Exciting news this morning!  Disney has decided to cancel the conversion of Mannequins Dance Palace into Morimoto Asia Restaurant effective immediately and instead return the building to its intended purpose as Mannequins!
In a news conference held around 9pm last night at Waterview Stage amphitheater on Pleasure Island, Downtown Disney Vice President Keith Bradford told gathered members of the press that there is a need for adult nightlife at Disney World to compete against an emerging International Drive scene as well as coming improvements at CityWalk.  "The last thing we need is one more large restaurant down here," he stated.  "The revolving dance floor will spin once again," according to Bradford.  He said it's still in there. "Surveys consistently tell us that our Guests want nightlife, per Bradford.

"The club will of course see the benefits of the improvements already made to the building," per Walt Disney World President George Kalogridis who was at the announcement.  "Modern lighting and laser technology will return Mannequins to top tier status among the world's night clubs," he said.

The Blog was able to reach namesake Masaharu Morimoto at his restaurant in New York City.  "I know nothing about it.  They pay me much money for my name but I no cook there."
