Another Cruise!

Haven't been on a cruise since April so it's about time to sail-away again.  Had so much fun on Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas last time that I'm back to do a repeat but this time from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. This is my third cruise on this vessel.

The first time on this ship it was a sailing out of Stockholm and featured DJ Patrick Jerry (DK) who played a lot of House music, Disco on 70's Night and was really into Latin music.

The sailing in April was out of Colon, Panama and featured DJ Amir (PA). There was a lot of the expected Latin music but he played a mean Dance/House set one night in the Viking Crown Lounge.  Can't wait to find out who will be leading the music this time! Stay-tuned for a report or two on this sailing to Nassau, Coco Cay and Miami!  I know the "Cupid Shuffle" ain't far away!

DTD Update: The Missing Highline

Was definitely wrong about that piece of the "highline" having been removed.  It's definitely there!

Right next to the new Starbucks, but not attached to it, near Characters In Flight.

It's meant to invoke memories of an abandoned elevated train trestle such as you might find in New York or Chicago.

This piece is by itself.  Apparently there will be no access to the top of this one for crowd-watching or sipping a drink.

More "highline" trestle is supposed to run along the edge of the new Food Truck Park that is being constructed in the former Bongo's Lawn.

Disney-released concept art shows a longer section constructed along what is currently that wall, with guest access to the top via elevator and stairs.

The food trucks will be parked in here and if you're so inclined, you'll be able to go up on top of the highline trestle to consume your food and drink, with musical entertainment perhaps nearby.

This Weekend In Techno Town

THURSDAY JUN 5  Start off a fun weekend with a mix of Dubstep and House music with DJ duo Candyland (USA), playing tomorrow night at Firestone Live!  ($16-20)

FRIDAY JUN 6  Have great memories of a horribly-wasted DJ Sandra Collins (USA) trying to sign a CD cover up in the booth of Destiny Night Club a few years back.  But wow, what an incredible set!  Rare visit to the east coast this Friday night at Sandwich Bar!  (Price NA) 

Downtown at Suite B Lounge on Friday night the NLP DJ group returns with Beta (GB) along with NLP residents DJ Matrix and Beni Hill and more!  Lots of Breakbeats!  ($7)

SATURDAY JUN 7  DJ duo Disco Fries return to Orlando this Saturday night at Firestone Live.  Lots of House including new hit "Love Me Right"!  ($5-10)  DJ's Alex Wood and Byno open.

Over at Roxy Nightclub they've got DJ/Producer Mercer (F) bringing some Parisian Electrohouse to Orlando.  ($10)

If you missed Tritonal's (USA) concert just a couple months ago in Orlando at Roxy, they return to central Florida this Saturday night, performing in front of the revolving dance floor at Amphitheatre in Tampa!  Very trancy.  Paris Blohm opens.  ($15-20)

DTD Update: First You See It, Now You Don't

First you see it.  We thought this was a section of the new "Highline" trestle.

Now you don't. They either removed it or it became incorporated into the structure of the new Starbucks shop, but I could not find it. 

 UPDATE:  Blog reader Bill R has sent us this picture and says that the Highline trestle really is still there.  "It has just been cleverly masked to blend in by the Starbucks building, although stands separate and distinct."  Thanks so much Bill, it sure had me fooled!

DTD Update: More Car Park Photos!

Downtown Disney's first of two parking garages!

Appears to have topped-out now at 5 levels.

Construction much farther along here on the west end than on the east end.

But I can definitely see this completed in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

They'll need it!

Concert Report: Above & Beyond (Sound Academy - Toronto)

Located out in Toronto's wharf district on Lake Ontario, there are no signs that tell you this abandoned warehouse with piled-up mattresses in one of the windows is also the location of a world-class nightclub!

But step inside and you're immediately confronted with the reality that is Sound Academy, Toronto's new large room dance club that is taking over for Koolhaus at The Guvernment, the venue that is closing so that it can be turned into condos and office space!

The Guvernment's resident DJ Mark Oliver (CDN) opening the night with 2.5 hour set.

The 10:30pm crowd was moderate but already-dancing!

And coveted front row spots were quickly taken.

Oliver was mixing House, Deep House with the theme of the evening, Trance!

And by 12:30am, the massive dance floor was packed as far as the eye could see.

And then it was time for what everyone was waiting for: Above & Beyond (GB)!

With Tony & Jono, two out of the three of the DJ trio appearing!

Many songs appeared with graphics of the song name which is an awesome idea, or with a video accompanying the song!

Current hit "Sticky Fingers" getting played just 20-minutes into the program!

Jammed all the way to the rear.  Could not even see the DJ's from back here yet everyone paid C$70-100 for their tickets.

Other tracks played included 2012's "Black Room Boys" and "Alchemy" along with 2013's "Walter White". 

Spray down!  (Actually, spray up.)

Big hit "A Thing Called Love" was played around 2am.

And in Toronto last night at Sound Academy, a good time was had by all!
