Concert Report: SIREN (Melbourne)

When someone said there would be a DJ concert in Melbourne that featured an all-female DJ lineup, we knew we had to go! So here we were on a Saturday night at Iron Oak Post in historic downtown Melbourne, Florida. (Editor’s Note: Historic in Boston means 1700’s. Historic in Melbourne means 1960’s.)

There is an old oak tree inside Iron Oak Post but we're not sure about the iron or the post.

They have a huge bar inside that wraps around to serve both the side room where the music is being played as well as the main room.

Full liquor bar plus lots of brews on tap. Each drink has a Number so as the evening gets later you can simply say to the bartender, "I'd like another 72".

These 2X per year events here at Iron Oak Post are fundraisers for worthy local charities. Last night's event was titled "SIREN" and all the proceeds were going to Serene Harbor, a domestic violence shelter. There were numerous donations of artwork which were available via silent auction.

The event began at 6PM and peeking into the music room we could see the first DJ had begun.

DJ Shai Town (USA)

Openers usually play to empty rooms but there were already some people here.

Her DJ name plays homage to her Illinois roots although she is now based in Orlando. Her Breaks set included both vocal and nonvocal selections.

Each DJ had 45-50 minute sets. DJ Electric Diva (USA) was up next.

We've known Melanie for years from attending Breaks events but had no idea she was also a DJ.

Her set included some Old Skool and Funky Breaks.

Dance floor began to populate during her set.

But still had a way to go.

At the far end of the room, the SIREN flag team began to perform.

Great set from this Orlando-based DJ!

DJ Vixen Stylee (USA) was up next.

After two Breaks sets, Vixen Stylee switched it over to fast-paced Drum & Bass.

You know it's going to be a great night when Vixen Stylee is on the playbill.

The dance floor was slowly filling in.

She is also based in the Orlando area.

Shift change around 8:30PM with DJ Jennifer Marley (USA) taking over.

And she really switched things up, moving the music over to House.

When we first met Jennifer Marley more than a decade ago she was usually playing Breaks. But the last few times we've seen her play it has always been House.

Good stuff! She had the dance floor bouncing!

Even some of the DJ's were out on the floor for her set!

They say you can never go wrong with Go Go girls.

Well damn! They were right!

Jennifer Marley is based right here on the Space Coast.

DJ ZZ (USA) was next.

Lots of Miami Bass in her set.

ZZ is also based in the Cocoa/Melbourne area.

Dance floor was jamming.

You can never go wrong with Go Go girls!

Near the end of ZZ's set, joined with live vocals from Dance singer Jamie Blue (USA) doing "Passion".

Around 10PM, DJ Sirpent (USA) would take the room in an entirely new direction.

She opened with some Heavy Bass/Dubstep tunes that had the crowd head-banging!

But her set also migrated over to some Tech House and House before returning to the heavier stuff. There may have been some Trap in there too.

The crowd was really getting into it.

The West Palm Beach-based DJ jolted the room!

We had some amazing aerialists perform.

Dance floor probably reached its peak at this juncture.

Rose Parker arranges these events and she was thanked for her efforts. It was announced that last night's event raised over $5,000 for Serene Harbor. Awesome! The venue donates its space, all the DJ's and performers donate their time and even RezPro lighting donates their equipment and labor.

11PM and time for DJ Jaime Recstar (USA).

School Teacher by day. DJ by night!

Delivering some more great House music.

It never got super-crowded last night but it was hardly empty either.

Jamie Recstar is based in Lakeland.

We ran into so many peeps from the Orlando and Space Coast music scene. Many we already knew but some were new!

As midnight approached, time for DJ K8 (USA).

Now based in Michigan, we had not seen her play in years.

We think we heard some House in there but it was mostly what she was known for when she lived in Orlando: Drum & Bass. Also known for DJ'ing in 4" heels, she played it flat last night.

Good DnB deserves some narrative to go with it and Vixen Stylee was providing it.

The crowd was getting into her fast-paced bpm's.

Great seeing DJ K8!

It's a great night when DJ Medley (USA) is playing!

We heard so many different music genres last night and Medley was part of that diversity delivering an Electro set.

We were first introduced to DJ Medley back in 2017 at Breaks Yo! in Miami Beach when she opened for the legendary DJ Icey (USA).

Dance floor stayed active.

It was late but everybody having a good time.

Medley is based in Miami.

Late yes but time for one more! DJ Darcii Darka (USA).

Drum & Bass of course for Darcii.

Doc Martens for the win.

Darcii Darka is based in Gainesville.

Both Jamie Blue & Vixen Stylee were providing narration.

It was around 1:30AM and no one was leaving just yet.

Those looks you get from great DnB.

Congratulations to Rose Parker and her successful night of fundraising for Serene Harbor. A good time was had by all.
