Hyperion Wharf: Let's Take A Closer Look

After more than 2 years of waiting, Disney finally announced what they plan to do with Pleasure Island. We finally learned this week that the Island will take on a nautical wharf warehouse-district theme of the early 20th century. Should we be upset?  Right now, the answer is NO. Why?  Because other than the theme and some artist renderings, nothing was announced that should cause anyone to be upset....yet. No shop names, no restaurant names, no entertainment options. So all we can do right now is remain hopeful and speculate. Let's look at the rendering above looking towards the Hub. First of all, we see that the Hyperion Wharf sign is facing the wrong way. That's only done so you can read it. We see Harley Davidson is no longer located at the corner. We see the Mannequins building has had some porthole type windows added to the 3rd floor. To the left we see that the Sosa Cigars building is still there and a refreshment stand kiosk is adjacent a waterfront seating area where small entertainment acts such as the fire-breather pictured perform. RRBC is obviously gone.

Zooming in closer, we see the former Harley shop now has a second floor and there are people hanging around up there. Are they drinking and dancing? We don't know. Light cannons point to the sky. The Hyperion Wharf sign is now properly facing the parking lot. There is some sort of LED billboard displaying Mickey. Paradiso 37 is still in business to the right.  And the 8TRAX building has shop window fronts with red awnings.

Standing in front of Paradiso 37 and looking in the direction of Motion, we see that Motion is no longer there and the main pathway makes a curve to the right to head towards the #1 Bridge and Marketplace. What the Blog reported long ago as a Lighthouse fast food restaurant and bar is there on the corner where Motion and RRBC used to meet, but we don't know what is in there. To the left of it is the new Mahogany Bay Classic Old Boats and Great Food restaurant, or whatever they end up calling it. To the right we see the red-awnings of shops in the 8TRAX area and some table seating. Anything adult-only? We don't know.

I love your positive thinking with people possibly dancing and drinking upstairs... Could we possibly have a place with adult entertainment??? PLEASE!! The drawings look great... Some dancing and music would be fantastic..... (fingers crossed) :-)

There is also the piece of concept art (POV from the Empress Lilly overlooking the Island) showing, just under the wretched balloon, the Adventurers Club roof!

How can they take down Motion? That club was the best club on the island :(

Motion?? Somebody hasn't been reading the blog..... AND, no...Motion was not the best club on the island,..even though it was great for The Cha Cha at Midnight! (Remember That??)... and, wasn't it Midnight at 8 Trax for The YMCA? Those were the days....

We must bear in mind that the Adventurers Club does not fit this theme, and that Disney may even consider building some sort of actual "wharf" in this project, speculatively at or near where the Adventurers Club stands today. So the club is for all intents and purposes gone from this property for good. Let's remain hopeful that the Adventurers Club will be reimagined somewhere else on WDW property.

Motion was the best club, closely followed by 8 Trax. Im never going back to Disney until they atleast give us one club back

Everyone has their own opinion of which club was the "best". I did not spend a lot of time in Motion but I did try to make it over for the midnight Cupid Shuffle and Cha Cha Slide songs. I never realized what a huge following Motion had until I met so many of the Motion gang at Atlantic Dance Hall after the PI closure.

The construction permits I published a month ago show that the Adventurers Club/Soundstage building is going to be demolished. I would guess we may see some new things open on the east end of the island before that demolition on the west end even takes place. Please provide a link for the concept art with the Empress Lilly point-of-view.

The construction jobs are a good thing and jobs created by new shops and restaurants are a good thing. But I have to agree with Jason71 when he questions WHO are going to fill all those restaurant seats?

The Fireworks Factory restaurant closed in 1997 and was replaced by Wildhorse Saloon which operated from 1998 to 2001. Motion replaced it later in 2001.

I think Adventurers Club could fit the theme. But how to eke a profit out of the place is the big question. Would enough people pay a $10 entry fee and drink enough drinks to sustain the high labor costs involved in operating it. My guess is: Yes, they would.

I thought the layout of Motion was spot on. The Club was nicely air conditioned and the dancefloor was so close to the bar area it practically forced people to dance. If you didnt want to dance you could go upstairs.

"Mannequins was voted best club in the world?"
I had heard this but NO i can not prove this!
I know that one of the DJ's who used to work there has been to clubs in other country's and parts of the would and said that Mannequins was much better than any club he has been in! you know the whole package the sound system lighting and round floor! and at the time the music played!
I can't prove this but Mannequins was the best club in this country! for many years in a row!

I've been to several night clubs that are always voted Top 10 in the world (Ministry of Sound, The Guvernment, Pacha-NYC) yet NONE of them come close to what Mannequins was. I've just never saw that honor officially bestowed on Mannequins.
