The first night of this cruise on MSC Splendida was under way last night and can you believe it, a cruise with no Hip Hop, no Reggaeton and no Line Dances? DJ Joel (EAK) was at the helm for both the pool deck party and the nightclub. Pics are on sister website Orlando Entertainment News here.

PI Update: Remembering Design-A-Tee

There once was a store in Downtown Disney Marketplace called Design-A-Tee by Hanes that allowed you to select a Disney-owed image and then make your own slogan to go with it. This was all done on a computer and then approved by an employee cast member and printed on your shirt selection immediately. Needless to say, some things that management would not likely approve (if they had seen it) did slip through, such as the one above, lol.

Or this one, featuring Save Pleasure Island Blog roving reporter Thommy! What made these tee shirts even more special is that they had been "approved" by Disney!

DS Update: Salt & Straw

We've previously posted pictures of the wall around this location when Salt & Straw was under construction but don't recall if we ever published actual photos of it being open for business. If not, here it is! It opened last April so we're definitely overdue.

The jewelry store Something Silver was located here previously and after it left, temporary store Amazing Pictures was here. A different ice cream parlor called Ample Hills Creamery was announced for the spot but never arrived and we got Salt & Straw instead.

DS Update: How Is Jaleo Doing?

Many years ago when the conversion to Disney Springs was announced and the inclusion of so many new restaurants was announced, we questioned where all the mouths to dine in these new restaurants were going to come from. But we were proven wrong! The mouths have definitely been there and the Springs has been a success from a dining standpoint. But what about Jaleo?

And that question includes Pepe, the quick serve restaurant in the same building. Sorry, but we never see very many people in either location here. While there can be lines at many of the other restaurant venues in Disney Springs, that's not the case here. We just wonder about this place.

DS Update: The Bakehouse Alternative

Lines continue to "plague" the entrance to Gideon's Bakehouse located at the Hub on Pleasure Island. They still routinely wrap around Mannequins and sometimes even approach 8TRAX. The sweets must be good!

But there is a hidden alternative. Everglazed Donuts is hidden in this side pathway between the theaters and the bowling alley and there's rarely a line.

 

The massive donuts are like Dunkin on steroids!

Orlando Entertainment News is in Miami for Miami Music Week and last night one of the highlights was DJ Keith Mackenzie (USA) joined on stage by MC Flipside (CDN) and dancer Kriss Reign (USA). The pics can be found on OEN here.

DS Update: Summer House Construction

The construction of Summer House continues at a rapid pace and now reaches above the walls surrounding the property.

This is taking place in Disney Springs West Side on the spot once occupied by Bongos Cuban Cafe.

Originally announced as the site if a Beatrix restaurant, construction was halted when Covid19 hit and it later was switched over to the Summer House concept. We expect large windows overlooking Village Lake.

This Weekend In Techno Town

Miami Music Week is now underway and all the action shifts to Miami and Miami Beach. Orlando bars will be open and local DJ's will be playing (some clubs may be dark), but touring DJ's from all over the world will be performing down there. If you're not going, enjoy the peace. Our sister website Orlando Entertainment News will be covering several events so stay tuned.

DS Update: Popup Truck

The Sunglass Hut store (previously Sunglass Icon) in Disney Springs West Side is under heavy renovations so, as that sign indicates, they've temporarily moved to a "popup truck".

That truck is parked adjacent the No. 5 Bridge to Pleasure Island.
