DS Update: Cirque Reopens Tonight

Cirque du Soleil in Disney Springs West Side had been closed since covid19 moved into the area but they are finally reopening tonight! Reopening will breathe some much-needed foot traffic to this far end of the West Side given that it's nearly adjacent to the also-closed NBA Experience complex. The new show is called "Drawn To Life". Many details and ticket access can be found here. The show tonight is sold out as are the next few days but there is availability beginning next week.

EDC Week: And Today It Begins!

Electric Daisy Carnival - Orlando has arrived. It begins at 1PM today and runs until midnight and then we do it again on Saturday and Sunday! Get your costume on and come on over! Hope to see you out there, under the electric sky!

EDC Week: Advance Look At The Stages

We were out at Camping World Stadium on Thursday afternoon to give you an advance look at this year's EDC stages.

The kineticFIELD Stage is located on it's own grounds across Rio Grande Avenue, just like it was last EDC. The massive stage faces towards the northwest this year while last time it was positioned towards the southwest. I think this provides better protection from traffic noise as well as safety from nearby TOLL SR408. It's beautiful and will look amazing lit at night!

Also returning across Rio Grande Avenue from the stadium itself is the neonGARDEN Stage. Whereas in prior years this stage was more of a tent, this year it's more of a long covered tunnel.

We couldn't get a picture of the circuitGROUNDS Stage or the Corona Electric Beach Stage because of their positions within the grounds. The stereoBLOOM Stage above was only from the back side.

The Rynobus Art Car Stage will be home to mostly local House DJ's all day Saturday and mostly local Breaks DJ's all day Sunday! For single day tickets, we understand that Saturday is sold out but still available for Friday and Sunday. About 150,000 people are expected across all 3 days. Hope to see you at Electric Daisy Carnival.

EDC Week: Set Times

There will be 4 main stages including Kinetic Field, Circuit Grounds, Stereo Bloom and the indoor tent Neon Garden. There will be one "art car" stage called Rynobus.

Corona Electric Beach will be back again this year with a 6th stage of music.

The 10th edition of Electric Daisy Carnival - Orlando begins this Friday at Tinker Field beside Camping World Stadium. Check out the official EDC trailer right here.

Trip Report: Madrid & Lisbon

Quick trip to Europe this weekend, leaving Thursday night and arriving into Portugal on Friday afternoon and then returning back to the United States on Saturday. Flying TAP Air Portugal, there was a connection in Lisbon and headed to my destination Madrid, Spain.

In terms of population, Madrid is the 2nd highest in the EU after Berlin. On approach MAD.

Transportation from the airport into the city was via the Madrid Metro.

My destination was near the Puerta del Sol in the center of Madrid.

On this chilly Friday night, the streets were filled with shoppers and diners. My hotel was near the Madrid Airport in the Barajas district.

Although I connected in Lisbon on the outbound, there was no time to visit. But returning to the United States yesterday I had a 5 hour connection time which allowed me time to go briefly into town.

Both my departures from LIS operated from regular airport gates but both my arrivals (coming and going) operated from remote gates which then necessitated a bus ride to the terminal. This is actually not that uncommon at European airports where there just aren't enough gates.

Transportation from the airport into the city was via the Metro de Lisboa.

Not a lot of time to wander around though. The Ave. de Liberdade. Interestingly, it was 35F° in Madrid at 7AM yesterday morning when I departed but 52F° in Lisbon at 7AM upon arrival. Although both cities are at about the same latitude, Madrid is on a high plateau around 2200' altitude while Lisbon is close to sea level along the Atlantic Ocean coast.

Castelo de São Jorge

This trip was the first time flying with TAP Air Portugal. The return to Newark was on this Airbus A330-900neo. Had an empty seat next to me so that was nice!

All too soon we were on our way, leaving the European continent behind us and not seeing any more land until 6 hours later along the coast of Nova Scotia. A good time was had by.....me.

Club Reports: Is The Why Not Lounge Coming Back?

Our sister website Orlando Entertainment News caught a rumor this weekend that predicted that the venerable Why Not Lounge in Altamonte Springs may be returning! As you may recall, the large "lounge" was located for years inside the Holiday Inn - Altamonte Springs but after it lost it's Holiday Inn flag, the hotel changed ownership and names (Howard Johnson Plaza, Clarion, Magnuson Grand, etc) numerous times over the years and changed from a business hotel to more of an extended stay property. At some point one of the owners apparently sold the liquor license and the Why Not Lounge closed forever in late-January, 2015. The hotel is currently called the Opal Hotel and Suites. Well according to the rumor, a bar/club will be reopening there late this year and it will be called the Why Not Lounge once again! We hope their famous Thursday night Ladies Night, a mainstay of north Orlando club nights for literally decades, returns as well. We'll keep you updated!
