DS Update: Schweet Tooth Fix

 

The Walt Disney World website asks, "What's New at Disney Springs?" It then goes on to not mention any new stores, restaurants or even kiosks but these 3 sweet shops! Yes, all three of them opened for business earlier this year. We begin with Gideon's Bakehouse which continues to have lines for the baked goodies wrapped around the old Mannequins building!

Everglazed Donuts also opened early this year. While $5 for a doughnut seems expensive, they're huge donuts! And this is Disney where people want to pay more!

Opening in spring was the M&M store where your favorite melts-in-your-mouth chocolate candy is available in all your favorite team colors, just in time for the football season. So while you're out visiting the Springs including all those amazing restaurants, save some room for those schweets!

PI Update: No DJ Sets At The Edison Just Yet

The Edison has restarted nightly entertainment again at the Pleasure Island venue, but that does NOT include any DJ sets. Resident DJ Mynd (USA) reports that depending on the night, they may have live bands, a top ariealist and/or burlesque dancers back just like before covid19 hit and forced TE to close. Breaking News: PI Rewind Will Have Live AC & CW Skits

 

As we've publicized, the House of Mouse Expo taking place on November 27-28 will include a Pleasure Island Rewind event which will be separately ticketed. Sources tell Save Pleasure Island Blog that along with a music segment from each of PI's former clubs, there will be a live Adventurers Club skit and a live Comedy Warehouse skit. Both will feature original cast members!

PI Update: That Pleasure Island Rewind

Back on June 28th the Blog told about the House of Mouse Expo coming to town this November and we pointed out the link to a Pleasure Island Rewind party. That link at the time went nowhere but piqued our interest and now that link has been updated!  LINK  Separately ticketed from the House of Mouse Expo event itself, we're told that they're bringing the clubs back to life that night ft. DJ Elliot (USA). Tickets are not yet available but will be soon and we'll update you because they will sell out!

PI Update: Masquerade Ball Is Back!

EDC Orlando Line-Up Posted

Insomniac has released the lineup for the 10th edition of Electric Daisy Carnival - Orlando. More than 120 DJ's will be performing over 3 days, November 12-13-14, at Tinker Field beside Camping World Stadium. There will be 4 main stages plus a couple of "art cars" with more music. A whole day of Florida-style Breakbeats will take place one day while the same stage goes to local House/Tech-House DJ's on a different day. This will be our biggest EDC ever following last year's covid-19 cancellation. The event sold completely out in 2019 with 225,000 attending. More info and tickets here.

ADH Update: Reopening August 6th

The website BlogMickey is reporting that Atlantic Dance Hall, closed for more than a year now due to covid19, will reopen on Friday, August 6th. Hours will be 8PM - 1AM. We've not seen anything official on the Walt Disney World website yet but we saw a photo of the ADH marquee showing the reopening date. Save Pleasure Island Blog will have full coverage of the night.

 

PI Update: Update On The Edison

The Edison has been operating as a restaurant for several months now but the nightlife featuring cabaret, trapeze acts and DJ sets remain on hold.

Disney is simply not allowing any activities that might run late into the night anywhere in the complex and Disney Springs still closes at 11PM nightly. Some live band entertainment has returned to The Edison though such as "The Sound Society Cabaret" pictured above performing last night. Entertainment at The Edison ends at 10PM Sunday-Thursday and 10:30pm Friday & Saturday nights.  (Photo Credit: DJ Mynd)

Trip Report: The Arctic Circle

Located on the east ramp of Fairbanks International Airport, this small building is home to Northern Alaska Tour Company. As the host company of Wednesday's "Arctic Circle Drive Adventure", they know how to put on an impressive journey!

The excursion takes over 15 hours to complete so it begins shortly after 6AM.

The trip makes numerous stops so you're never bored. This stop was along the Trans-Alaska Pipeline where you can get up close and personal. As you may know, it was constructed during the 70's and runs more than 800 miles from Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean (and where the oil wells are) all the way to Valdez on the Pacific Ocean where the oil is loaded onto tankers.

To build the pipeline, the Dalton Highway was constructed beside the pipeline route and runs from just north of Fairbanks all the way to Prudhoe Bay.

Yes, there is often wildlife to see along the highway!

Another sight along the journey is the Yukon River, America's third-longest river.

The Yukon River Camp is a lunch stop northbound and a dinner stop southbound. The restaurant is closed this year but there are snacks, drinks and souvenirs.

There are also great views of the Yukon River Bridge at this stop.

The Dawson Highway goes on and on for hundreds of miles.

Finally, our destination arrives!

The Arctic Circle!  Located slightly above 66° north latitude, this is the farther north I've ever been. (Even Iceland last month is not as far north.) Plenty of time for photos and selfies here before beginning the return back to Fairbanks. If you're ever visiting Alaska and specifically Fairbanks, I highly recommend this tour. More details here.
