This Weekend In Techno Town

TONIGHT MAY 8
I'm kind of expecting Rüfüs Du Sol (AUS) to be something like the Odesza (USA) show I saw last May at CFE Arena meaning electronic music with lots of sound and lighting effects. If it's not, I may be out of there in less than an hour! Hard Rock Live tonight at Universal CityWalk!  Electronic Music.

THURSDAY MAY 9
Once upon a time House of Blues in Disney Springs was known for "Service Industry Night" on Sundays and "Rewind" on Thursdays. Both were quashed but "Rewind" ft. DJ Rincon (USA) returns tomorrow night to begin a weekly re-creation of its former self!  80's / 90's / 00's.

FRIDAY MAY 10
One of our favorites is DJ Markus Schulz (D/USA) who last played at Gilt but returns to Orlando this Friday night to play at Celine. Another favorite DJ Luccio (USA) opens as does U4EUH (USA).  Trance.

Every couple months The Abbey runs an 80's Night with a live band and this session they've got Rockit Fly (USA) back on the stage. And it's FREE!  80's Hard Rock.

SATURDAY MAY 11
THIS will be a good one! This special edition of "Lost In Trancelation" has DJ Craig Connelly (GB) in the small venue Bikkuri Lounge where direct interaction with the DJ delivers an amazing experience. With resident DJ Suzy Solar (USA).  Trance.

It's hard to choose what's best this Saturday night but one of the founders of Detroit Techno music is playing at Elixir Bar and that's none other than DJ Carl Craig (USA). Have not seen him since Igloofest - Montreal in 2016. Techno.

DJ Timmy Trumpet (AUS) was doing a daylight set last year at EDC-Orlando and he kind of stopped everyone in their tracks when he pulled out his namesake trumpet and began playing. He returns to Orlando for this show at Gilt Nightclub on Saturday night!  Electro House.

DS Update: Staggered Openings?

As we reported last month, the opening of City Works Eatery and Brew House was recently moved from Summer, 2019 to Winter, 2019.

But City Works is actually part of the NBA Experience building yet the sign there still has the NBA Experience opening in Summer, 2019. So either this sign still needs to be updated or their restaurant is opening up to 3 months later than the main event.

DS Update: Closing And Not Closing

Trophy Room, the sneaker store owned by Michael Jordan's son Marcus Jordan, is closing. Located in the Town Center section of Disney Springs, it's slated to shut on May 31st.  The store is supposedly switching to an internet-only format but the physical shop itself at DS is closing.

Not closing is Erwin Pearl Jewelry. In the years since it's opened, I've occasionally (but rarely) seen a customer inside the place. Somehow they remain open.

Trip Report: Views From The Sky.

Arrived back in Florida late last night so today we will use this filler article showing various views from the sky. This is Disney Springs taken from United 2387 on the Orlando International - Los Angeles International flight.

Passing over Phoenix at 35,000 ft.

The mountains east of Los Angeles just before the descent.

The climb out of Seattle - Tacoma International on Southwest 3553 en route to St. Louis Lambert included stunning views of Mount Rainier.

And this view of the still-flooded Mississippi River and downtown St. Louis from Southwest 4566 on the way to Orlando International.

Club Reports: Billboard Onboard, BB King's Blues Club (HAL Eurodam)

Following a 5-night cruise on Norwegian Bliss from Los Angeles to Vancouver, I switched over at Canada Place in downtown Vancouver to a 1-night cruise to Seattle on Holland America Line's ship Eurodam. One of the ship's main clubs is called Billboard Onboard.

It turned out to be a dueling pianos type of bar.

And after the pianists opened with "Bad Bad Leroy Brown", I instinctively knew this was not the place for me!

So I headed over the the ship's other club, BB King's Blues Club.

Just like Orlando, I found the BBKing's All-Star Band performing live!

They kept the dance floor busy with hits like "Brick House" and "Mustang Sally".

While the bartender kept guests entertained by knocking over one shot glass and the chain reaction had every other shot glass fall into larger glass below it!

Meanwhile "Heard It Through The Grapevine" was a sign that I needed to go to bed! Nonetheless, I think a good time was had by all.

Friday Funny

Club Reports: Mixx, Q, Cavern Club, Social (Norwegian Bliss)

Wednesday night on Norwegian Bliss and time to do some partying! First stop the Mixx bar for a quick drink.

And then over to the Bliss Theater for an amazing 90-minute rendition of Broadway-hit "Jersey Boys".

Q Texas Smokehouse by day becomes Q Dance Club by night!

Nashville Connection (USA) was playing last night.

Because you know by now how much I love Country music!

This couple won the "Newlywed, Not So Newlywed" game earlier in the cruise!

Couldn't wait to escape this place!

In favor of the famed Cavern Club!

For the "Decades Dance Party".

With music delivered by DJ Keith (RP). This is the second cruise where we've run into DJ Keith; the first time on Norwegian Breakaway in 2014 as seen here.

He opened with several 50's & 60's "decades" songs which did not draw much of a crowd.

But 70's Disco packed the floor with hits like "Stayin' Alive", "Brick House" & "Celebration"!

The 80's were popular too starting off with "Gloria" and "Material Girl".

The 90's took us into early Hip Hop hits such as "Jump" and "This Is How We Do It".

After the 90's it became open format with all kind of dance songs including my Trap favorite "Turn Down For What".

 Some of the showgirls from the ship's "Prohibition" show joined in the fun!

It was a great show and a good time was had by all!

DJ Carnage (USA) was a pleasant surprise when I saw him play at EDC-Orlando a couple years go. He will be bringing his Big Room vibes to Celine this Saturday night!  Big Room House / Trap.
