Concert Report: Prophecy (Celine Orlando)

Celine has become the "go to" place for electronic dance music in downtown Orlando!
Arrived before 11PM and came up to the rooftop where there was some dancing going on.
DJ Benny Black (USA) leading the festivities.
Yes, this is the place!
OK, coming back downstairs to the main room where DJ Horny Dave (USA) was laying down a Top 40 / EDM set.
Main room still a bit empty so back upstairs I went.
DJ Ronnie Lopez (USA) now on the decks.
Lots of Melbourne Shuffle going on!
But 12:30AM had arrived so it was back down to the main room for electronic music group Prophecy!
Featuring headliner Mauricio.
Chris.
And vocals from Dance singer Renee.
The lasers were in full force down here!
Spotted on the dance floor: Katey and Alberto
Spotted at the bar: Harley and DJ Robb Blak (USA).  Robb opens for DJ Cold Blue (D) on November 30th for "Lost In Trancelation" at Bikkuri Lounge.
Spotted on the dance floor: Tifni and Lisa
Spotted in the crowd: Jana, Chris & Stacey
Spotted on the dance floor: Brian and Blog-favorite bartender Nicole.
Spotted on the dance floor: Anthony and Adriana

Prophecy only played for about a half hour but it was wonderful!
With a big crowd here to see it!
Great vibe had everyone bouncing!
It was just too short!
After the Prophecy set, another legend took over on the main stage: DJ D-Xtreme (USA).
Breaks & Electro!
Fun stuff in the main room!
Now back to the rooftop one more time. DJ Matt Enos (USA) had taken over.
Dance floor full here too!
Celine used to be Vain and before that Lyrica and Cairo.
Spotted on the dance floor: DJ Prophet 808 (USA). He joins DJ Mark Sanchez (USA) in Daytona Beach on October 27th at Rokbar.
Spotted by the booth: DJ's Brian Benning (USA) and Suzy Solar (USA). They host famed DJ Roger Shah (D) at Peek Downtown next Saturday night!
House music all night long!
Upstairs and downstairs last night, a good time was had by all!

PI Update: Looking For 8TRAX

Wednesday morning and what better place to spend it, than Pleasure Island!
I knew 8TRAX was plainly visible from the rear adjacent Central Springs, but I couldn't remember if you could still see it from the front.
Oh yeah, there it is!
As mentioned, they took zero effort to hide 8TRAX from the rear and it doesn't fit any of the backstory of Disney Springs the town.
And Forbidden Lounge is located nowhere near where its sign has been placed.
From our article last week, how the 8TRAX side entrance previously looked with that 8-Track cartridge sticking out above the door.
The circular building still houses stairs while the adjacent building area has replaced the hopping 70's & 80's nightclub with toilets.

A DJ Saved My Life

Today on the Blog we're going to pay tribute to DJ Leony (USA) under the title of an old early 80's song called "A DJ Saved My Life." Why? Because when our namesake Pleasure Island and in particular Mannequins closed in September, 2008, many of us drifted over to Universal CityWalk and their main club The Groove and it was a depressing experience. Rarely did they play any electronic dance music in there (or techno as we used to call it back then) which is what we were all craving. But then a friend introduced me to a different CityWalk club called Latin Quarter. It is here that I discovered DJ Leony!

Of course Latin Quarter was mostly Latin genres of dance music. But during that first visit in 2009, Leony launched into a half-hour set of EDM too and he would do the same every couple hours during his Thursday and Saturday night gigs! His name was also so familiar to me but how? I then discovered DJ Leony had his own EDM mix show on XM Satellite Radio on a show called Air 81 where an imaginary flight across the country would touch down in various cities and a local DJ would play a one hour show. Leony played countrywide when the flight touched down in Orlando! And here he was right here at LQ!

It was only later that I discovered downtown Orlando and clubs like Sky60 and Bliss Ultra Lounge where more EDM could be heard. But prior to that, the year post-Pleasure Island was kind of depressing but hats off to DJ Leony, a DJ saved my life!

PI Update: The Final Night at Mannequins

Over the years we have viewed dozens of "Final Night" videos from inside Mannequins. They vary in quality greatly but one thing they all share in common is that they were filmed from ground level on the dance floor. Many have distorted sound.
Now for the first time ever, DJ Ian McDaniel (USA) has posted on Vimeo raw footage he recorded that night! While he wanders outside the club a couple times, most of it was filmed inside Mannequins from the DJ booth. You'll clearly hear some of the wonderful music selections from that night played by DJ Peapod (USA) & DJ Dave Cannalte (USA). You'll hear the chant for "One More Song!" and you'll hear that final selection.
Mannequins then closed forever!
This video is not for the faint of heart. Watch it when you have the full 1 hour, 5 minutes to dedicate to it. See how the decision was made to go way beyond 2AM and play "one more song"; a decision apparently made when Peapod realized he couldn't be fired.
Mannequins fans will want to view this from this new perspective. For those that never went there, a few minutes watch will show you the amazing lighting that existed in this era before lasers; both the spot lights and the famous light wall.
Enjoy!

PI Update: Late Night Disney Springs Extended!

Ten years now without the clubs but it's Saturday night so let's cross this bridge one more time to beautiful Pleasure Island!
Located where Rock'n'Roll Beach Club once stood, the Waterview Stage is the focal point of "Disney Springs Late Night", the event that began on March 1st with the idea of keeping Disney Springs from being such a ghost town after 10PM or so.
Late Night resident DJ Michael Wycoff (USA) on the decks!
Top 40 hits from the past couple decades had the dance floor packed!
And damn, he's animated!
Late Night Disney Springs was introduced to run through Spring Break.  It was so successful that it was extended through Labor Day weekend and then until the end of September. The Blog has verified that it's now going to continue indefinitely, at least through the end of the year if not longer!
It takes place every Thursday, Friday & Saturday night from 10PM to 1AM.
Spotted on the dance floor: DJ Tony Z (USA) with Jenny.
Eddy Maserati making an appearance too. If you did not see our recent Blog article about him, check it out here.
Michael Wycoff showcasing his old skool scratching skills!
The crowd drawing-in close to watch in amazement!
Five temporary light towers were installed in February for Late Night and permanent replacements will be installed in about two weeks.

STK participates in Late Night Disney Springs.
DJ K-Von (USA) was in the booth playing low key hits.
Besides dining, there is a bar crowd but rarely dancing.
But there is a lot more going on across Hill Street at The Edison.
DJ Mynd (USA) in the perch playing Top 40.
Spotted on the dance floor: Dawn from 8TRAX.
And we're happy to report that DJ's at The Edison will be happening 7 nights per week effective immediately!  It had been limited to just Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights.
Passing by the Strolling Harpist. At Disney Springs Late Night, a good time was had by all!
