I-Drive Update

The latest sign in front of Mango's still says "Summer 2015" but with just a little over 2 months remaining in Summer 2015, I just don't see how this can make it.
Sign used to say it was opening in 2014 and later it said 2015 without specifying "Summer".
This is a large project and I'm looking forward this being a new entertainment option but I think they'd best put the 2016 sign up now.

PI Update: Florida Fish Camp Coming to Disney Springs

Last month we published this new piece of Disney Springs concept art that had been posted along the springs wall near Raglan Road.  It displayed a new rustic-looking restaurant overlooking the bubbling springs.  We now know that it's going to be called Chef Art's Florida Fish Camp. It's a concept from Chef Art Smith, former personal chef to Oprah Winfrey and a couple Florida governors. While the area hardly needs yet another seafood option, the two chimneys does offer the possibility of BBQ and Smith was at one time a judge on television's "BBQ Pitmasters".  We'll see and keep you posted.

PI Update: Mannequins To Morimoto

Previously released Disney Springs concept art shows the view of Morimoto Asia Restaurant as one approaches over the new No. 2 Bridge across the springs.  Upon crossing, a cobblestone pathway beckons guests to proceed to the entrance which apparently will be at 8TRAX.
This past weekend, the cobblestones were already being installed as the new restaurant begins to look quite a bit like the building displayed in the art.
The Mannequins entrance doors have been removed.  The elevator might still be in there.  Are those two sushi walk-up windows?
Is that a telegraph pole being installed?  More railroad theme?
Close up. Morimoto is supposed to open in September.
The poles that supported the vertical Mannequins sign are still there, soon to support a Morimoto sign.  It's sad, that's for sure. But we know a venue this size is going to have to offer adult musical entertainment after 10PM if it's going to survive.  With that, there is hope it will be something that draws crowds.  A revolving dance floor would be cool.

PI Update: Views From The Air

Off we go (again), into the wild blue yonder!  At BET Soundstage, the second level floor is slowly being demolished to go along with the rest of the club.
While it appears that the exterior framework of Adventurers Club will remain even as the interior is gutted.
A look at the Paradiso 37 project being quite a bit more extensive than just the addition of a water-facing patio.  Don't jump guys!
And thanks to our SkyCam, we can see the project wraps around the building into the breezeway between it and the AC building.
The most recent edition of the Pleasure Island water taxi dock was being dismantled during my visit.
We were previously told that the new water taxi dock will open sometime this month.
Nice overview of Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar and the adjacent outdoor amphitheater.
Those boating on Village Lake can see a logo sign sporting the full name while so are those standing at The Hub facing the front of the bar only get the original Hangar Bar logo.
The Boathouse of course is the largest addition to the lineup on Pleasure Island.  It's nice, but I would personally just prefer club Motion was still standing there!
Progress on the STK Restaurant going in at West End Plaza, former home of Comedy Warehouse.
This spot remains the only remaining retail vacancy on the Island and we haven't seen any permits announced for it either.  It's located just to the east of the former Mannequins smokers patio.
The massive Raglan Road complex has been impacted by construction walls of late. RR is supposed to be adding some type of new food concept to that green patch adjacent Vivoli Gelato.
But as you can see, nothing happening there just yet. Tomorrow on the Blog we'll get a look at the exterior of Mannequins.

Club Reports: Independent Bar, Native Social Bar, Peek Downtown

Well of course I'm going to begin any Saturday night downtown visit with I-Bar!
Lighting Tech Ernie keeping things flashing for DJ Indie John!
Girl in line in front of me asked the bouncer if there was dancing inside?  Hell yes, there's dancing!
Saturday night music format of 80's New Wave.  Heard Simple Minds, Billy Idol and The Cure among others during my visit!
Consistently draws young and old!
Although with last night's traffic in gridlock from the earlier fireworks spectacular at Lake Eola, the 11PM crowd was not as many here as is typical.
Native Social Bar is located on Church Street in the former home of Mako's.
DJ Micro (USA) was in the booth delivering House & Breaks.
Great music but nothing like the crowd we saw in here one week ago for DJ Baby Anne or two weeks ago for DJ Friction!
In fact, it was downright empty.  It won't be that way though this coming Thursday night as Stanton Warriors (GB) will be right here!
Back to Peek Downtown for the second time this weekend!
Arrived to find DJ James Wolfe delivering a great Breakbeat set!
He had the dance floor pretty full and moving!
DJ duo Code Rising (USA) coming on next!
Their Electro-infused set got many into a dancing frenzy!
Spotted in VIP: DJ Matrix & DJ Security
Also spotted in VIP: Red Sara, White CJ & Blue Stacey
Spotted dancing: Jenn Marie
Spotted on the dance floor getting photobombed: Future Sound of Breaks Glyn S. Morgan. His famous The Reunion 2015 event takes place over Labor Day Weekend in Tampa and is a DO NOT MISS event on the annual social calendar!
Spotted chilling: DJ J-Dub with Christina
The music stayed fast-paced; the dance floor stayed crazy!
DJ's Prophet 808 & Security tag-teaming the last set of the night.
A good time was had by all!
