Concert Report: Mile High Massive (District 3 Tampa)

First time visit to District 3 in the Channelside area of Tampa.  Last night it was home to the Mile High Massive!

Arrived after 11PM to find DJ Noel Sanger on the main stage delivering a brilliant House set!

Huge warehouse style club but the early crowd on the dance floor was a bit on the light side.

Over in The Loft room, DJ Fixx was mixing it up with Chicago's DJ Keith MacKenzie!

Breakbeats happening in this room!

 You can never go wrong with Go Go girls!

Awesome pair of bell bottoms on this breaker chick!

Back in the main room and taking over at midnight, headliner DJ Icey (USA).

Dance floor got pretty jammed for his set!

Music was a lot of Breaks but also some Progressive House.

Always a treat to hear Icey spin; last saw him at the Miami Massive back in March!

 He was his usual animated self!

Club Report: Epic Nightclub

Friday night in Orlando and back to visiting Epic Nightclub.

Only thing was that basically very few were here!

Great Breakbeat sets but few takers.

DJ Brad Smith on next and delivering a great House/Dance set!

But a good time was had by few.

Zedd & Selena Gomez

Pop singer Selena Gomez (USA) usually gets top billing on the songs she releases but such is not the case on her current hit "I Want You To Know".  Why, it's because she's teamed-up with boyfriend DJ/Producer Zedd (D), providing the vocals on his song.  So like most songs since EDM has exploded, the DJ gets top billing and the vocalist gets mentioned as "featured". The song has made it to #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic chart.  Enjoy!

PI Update: Searching For Pleasure Island

The subject of two recent articles on the Blog, our search for signs that mention Pleasure Island continues.  These signs on the Orange Garage entry road advertise numerous shopping and dining options in Downtown Disney.  But every one of them are for establishments in the Marketplace or West Side!  Nothing for the restaurants on Pleasure Island!

Except this one for Raglan Road.....on Pleasure Island!  The Island still lives!

Adventurers In Charity Returns Again

AC fans, Adventures In Charity is returning again this year! It's taking place on the weekend following the "final night" anniversary of when the clubs on Pleasure Island closed in 2008.  At the Adventurers In Charity event, more than a half dozen former Disney cast members (including Adventurers Club) will appear doing original comedy skits with net proceeds going to charity.  The Saturday night event is taking place at the Holiday Inn Resort on SR535 in Lake Buena Vista and ticket prices begin at just $25!  Friday night's event is a group sing-along with Yeehaw Bob at Disney's Port Orleans Resort.  Full details, the line-up and ticket purchases can be found here. This Weekend In Techno Town

FRIDAY MAY 8  First Orlando appearance since EDC 2013 for 3LAU (USA).  Known for House but also Trap.  Loudpvck (USA) and Bright Lights (USA) open; at Venue 578!

Friday nights at Epic Nightclub have become epic and that trend continues this weekend with NLP in the club for a night of Breaks!  The lineup includes DJ Matrix, Super Fly Jeff, Brad Smit, Davie-D and many more!

Meanwhile Suite B Lounge, the usual home to Breaks, goes House/Deep House with Renzo Ruiz and Rob Prynge opening for Jason Justiano!

SATURDAY MAY 9 The new Gilt Nightclub near Orlando Executive Airport has DJ duo Cosmic Gate (D) spinning this Saturday night. I've seen them several times including at EDC - Orlando and it's always a great show!

The big Breaks show this weekend takes place at District 3 in Tampa and features DJ Icey, AK1200, Keith Mackenzie, DJ Fixx, Noel Sanger and many, many more!  Channelside.

DTD Update: Super Hero HQ Opens

Super Hero Headquarters has opened in Downtown Disney West Side. Marvel's contract with Universal prevents Disney from using Marvel characters in theme parks east of the Mississippi River but does not prevent them from having a store selling Marvel merchandise. Items for sale include t-shirts, action figures, LEGO superhero kits, etc.

 Super Hero Headquarters replaces United World Soccer.

United World Soccer replaced Blink by Wet Seal.

 Blink by Wet Seal replaced Magnetron.

PI Update: Island Vacancies

Let's take a look at the remaining vacant spaces on Pleasure Island. This one is on Hill Street across from Paradiso 37, between the new Sound Lion and Apex Sunglasses stores.

This building across from the outdoor amphitheater will house either one or two new venues; we're not sure since it's wide but not deep.  New windows instead of boards is an indication that something is opening very soon.

This would be the second venue in the same building.  This one is still boarded up.  Two names posted as coming are Vivoli Geleteria and Joffrey's Tea, so perhaps both are opening in here.

This vacant parcel adjacent but across from Raglan Road will be home to some type of food venue operated by Raglan Road, but we don't know what.

Nice view of construction taking place out in the former PI parking lot.  But up close we have the former location of Comedy Warehouse.  Speculation calls for the new STK Restaurant to be built in this area overlooking the Springs with perhaps The Tunnels underneath the plaza you see.

Looking down onto the lower level of the Island.  The Springs will be down there while Planet Hollywood becomes Planet Hollywood Observatory.

We know that railroad station looking building houses the new restrooms that face West End Plaza.  This is the backside of that building and there is construction taking place between the camera and that building.  Because of the distance involved, we couldn't tell if the new construction is on the Island side of the Springs or on the near side of the Springs.  More likely the latter.

We know that 8TRAX renovations are related to renovations taking place at adjacent Mannequins as it is converted into Marimoto Asia Restaurant.  We don't know if it will be an entirely different restaurant or just additional space for Marimoto.  We should know this summer.

Partly hidden by that fence but located between 8TRAX and the bathroom building is an entirely new building with the previously-published Sunshine Rail Line emblem on it. Paradiso 37 is behind it.

The future of Adventurers Club remains a mystery.  Early blueprints labeled it as a cafeteria with a railroad steam locomotive in front of it.  Later concept art displayed a smoke stack where that chimney is and it looked like The Edison Orlando was coming here.

And the future of BET Soundstage Club remains a mystery as well.  But Downtown Disney / Disney Springs could probably use a few more restaurants.
