Concert Report: Electric Daisy Carnival Orlando - Day 1

Last year when I came out to the first day of EDC-Orlando around 3pm, the place I like to park along the East-West Expressway (TOLL 408) had just a few cars already parked and inside EDC it was still mostly empty.  That was not the case yesterday; my parking lot was already full and there inside large crowds had already gathered!!
And the adventure began with DJ Deniz Koyu (D) on the Kinetic Field main stage!
His set was largely the Dance/Vocal House you hear on Sirius/XM BPM.

And as you can see, a large crowd was already amassed!
Over at the Circuit Grounds stage, loud Dubstep from Luminox (USA).
With another large crowd already gathered here too!
As recommended by the Blog, short shorts and fluffies!
Spotted: Getting ready to perform, DJ Cassy (D) at the Neon Garden stage.
And she would put on a traditional non-vocal House set like you hear at clubs in Miami or Soundbar here in Orlando!
I was concerned that it didn't fit in a concert setting versus a club....but it worked!
Back at the main stage, a great vocal House/Dance set from Arty (RUS).
And the crowd was jammin'!
Visited the Kandi store.
Thousands of beads available to make hugely popular EDM bracelets.
And this young lady showing us arm-kandi to the ex-treme!
Another great set from R3HAB (NL) followed Arty.
Lasers!
An hour set of mostly Dubstep was then delivered by DJ duo Zeds Dead (CDN).
Which the fans liked following a day of mostly House music so far.
The Blog article with the most hits ever (thousands) is called "Zedd vs Zeds Dead".  It explains the difference between German DJ Zedd and this Canadian duo.  Google it!
Started to get really hard to get pictures.  But the best set of the night that I witnessed came from this guy, ATB (D)!
He just blew the place up with hard-driving Dance hits!
EDC has all new stages this year; all three of them much larger than what they were using here a year ago!
A mostly Trance set from Dash Berlin (NL) although he mixed in House and Dubstep songs too.
Some pretty amazing lighting displays!
EDC girls!
Paco Osuna (E) continue the pure House trend over at the Neon Garden stage.
People were really getting into it!
More EDC girls!
Final set of the night from Calvin Harris (GB), opening with his massive hit "Sweet Nothing"!
A good time was had by all!  But having stood now for 8 hours, I personally had to give it up.
For those that can't attend, you can hear some live sets on Sirius/XM 52, Electric Area. If you are planning to come out today or tonight, buy your tickets ahead of time here as Kaskade is performing for the first time ever in Orlando and the line-up also includes Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Gareth Emery, Cosmic Gate and many more!

PI Update: PI Bypass Has Opened

More pics from Blog reader "Bill from PA" who was out on beautiful Pleasure Island yesterday afternoon and discovered the new bypass causeway open for business!  From the West Side the causeway begins near the Characters In Flight ticket booth and heads out over the mouth of The Waterfront towards the east.
Looking back to the west, one can see the width of the new pathway which Bill estimated to be 25ft.
So far there are no vendors or attractions along the boardwalk but there are nice views of Village Lake.
Up close and personal with BET Soundstage.  Concept art shows a new building in this spot that looks nothing like Soundstage, leading observers to believe this place is coming down.  But CM's on the Island say both Adventurers Club and Soundstage will be repurposed but not demolished.
Our article earlier this week included a picture from the top of Hill Street looking down onto this causeway door, connected to the Island by a ramp.  This is an opposite view looking at it from the causeway itself.
As we continue west, the causeway passes Paradiso 37.
The Pleasure Island water taxi station is once again open for business, offering nonstop service to Downtown Disney Marketplace and 1-stop service to House of Blues.
A look at how the new Island water taxi station is now situated.  The causeway is supposed to be temporary, creating a pathway around the heavy Island construction once it begins.  For now the causeway is optional as the traditional path across PI remains open.  Thanks again to "Bill from PA" for all these great photographs!

Breaking News: Disney Springs Concept Art

Breaking news from beautiful Pleasure IslandBlog reader "Bill from PA" informs us that the Pleasure Island bypass causeway is open today and the walls are loaded with Disney Springs concept art!
The concept art pieces are large and done in a similar style to the Starbucks concept art we showed you a couple days ago!

You can click on this picture to zoom in even further.  It shows the you Schussler Creative "Classic Old Boats and Good Food" restaurant that we've been telling about for a few years now.  That's the working name, not the actual name. We've also referred to it as the "lighthouse restaurant".
The art shows that there are some incredible things coming to Disney Springs!
The elevated railroad track, to be used as a platform for partying of some sort!
Come out to the Island yourself and check out the new bypass and the artwork!  Festival of the Masters takes place in Downtown Disney this weekend!  Big thanks to Bill from PA for this photos!  We'll have more tomorrow of the bypass causeway itself!

Unofficial EDC Dressing Guide

When guys go out to a concert there's about 3 seconds worth of thought put into what to wear.  But we at the Blog know that you Ladies stress about this sort of thing.  We thus present our unofficial EDC Dressing Guide!

DO:  First of all, it's important to be visible.  Dressing colorful is important.

DO:  It's going to warm out there so very short shorts are essential!
DO:  Fluffies are still very much IN.
DO:  Tu-tu's are also still the rage.
DO:  Bonus points for wearing a nice tail.
DON'T:  Don't wear heels.  While there are some paved roadways within the EDC grounds, the three stages are in grass and dirt fields and you'll be miserable.
DON'T:  Don't wear horizontal stripes.  You want to look your best out there and horizontal stripes can tend to make you look fat.  EDC begins tomorrow.  Enjoy!!

DJ Paul Oakenfold Coming To Orlando

He played Orlando twice in 2010 but hasn't been back since and is thus waaay overdue!  DJ/Producer Paul Oakenfold (GB) returns to O-Town on Friday, December 13th at Vain Nightclub!  Very limited $15 earlybird tickets are available here but once they're gone the price goes up.  Oakenfold was one of the first big name EDM DJ's to establish a residency at a Las Vegas casino nightclub, a novelty at the time.  Since then of course most of the casinos have established dance clubs and signed DJ's to residencies.  Don't miss Oakey live and up close!

PI Update: Island Bypass Nears Completion

The Pleasure Island Dock is closed and water taxi service is bypassing the Island.  How come?
Well let's follow the new Bypass causeway starting here where it begins (behind the Characters In Flight ticket office) and follow its path.
Initially the causeway crosses the mouth of The Waterfront and then passes around the closed Soundstage Club.
It then passes on the north side of Adventurers Club.
Between AC and Paradiso 37 there is a short connection to the Island.  I would imagine that this is for emergencies and maintenance only and would not normally be open. But the connection's location leads me to believe that the AC building won't be demolished.

And here's the reason the dock is closed.  The higher and wider causeway is built above where the pier was located!  I couldn't tell if the water taxi pier is still under there or whether it was removed. If the bypass causeway is truly temporary then it would make sense to keep the water taxi pier in place.
And here is where the causeway makes its connection back onto Pleasure Island.
This wall currently blocks access to the bypass from this side. In the future pedestrians coming off the causeway will at least initially be able to continue forward towards Mannequins & Raglan Road or turn right towards Paradiso 37. Once the bypass is operational then the No. 4 Bridge from the West Side can be closed and the demolition of Soundstage can begin.  It will then also allow them to remove the hill that makes up that entire west side of Pleasure Island

PI Update: Construction.....Finally!

One never knows what one's going to find when one crosses this bridge onto Pleasure Island!

It's only taken 61 months (but who's counting) from the time the clubs closed but we finally have something under construction on the Island!
There's been plenty of demolitions but nothing has ever been built.  Located at the rear where Motion used to stand, we now have a new building going up directly behind Portobello Country Italian Trattoria.  The Island's main pedestrian pathway would pass through this area but make a 90-degree turn to the right and pass between Portobello and Raglan Road.

The concept art shows what reportedly would be Schussler Creative's "Mahogany Bay Classic Old Boats and Good Food Restaurant" (working name) to be located approximately in that area, wrapping around the far corner of the Island.  Whether this is part of that concept remains to be seen.
