Club Reports: Red Sky Bar, QBar (Bangkok)

Had heard the song and finally got to experience it.  One night in Bangkok!!

Starting off on a Friday with "happy hour" at Red Sky Bar offering 2 for 1.

The open air venue is on the rooftop on the 55th floor of a skyscraper!

I think Orlando's 180 Grey Goose Lounge will never quite be the same after seeing this!

Continuing the fun around midnight at Q-Bar Bangkok.  There are thousands of nightlife options in a city the size of Bangkok but no matter who I asked about dance club options, this one was on everyone's list!

 Spotted: Q-Bar's Saturday night resident DJ Kimball Collins (USA), originally from Orlando and famous for his AAHZ club nights.  Got to visit with him for awhile and hear more about the local scene! When my trip was booked he was the Friday night DJ here but he switched to Saturdays.

As 3am approached, a good time was being had by all!

Club Reports: Macau Casinos (Macau)

Next stop on this Asian journey is to Macau, the former Portuguese territory that was returned to China in 1999. The Chinese have not merged the area into their country, instead calling it a "special administrative region" and by-in- large letting it operate independently.

And Macau's main business is casino gambling. I stayed in the historic center of the territory which lights up incredibly at night with one casino after another, Vegas style! This is the Wynn.

Of course there is a MGM Grand too.  Gambling revenues in Macau now exceed Las Vegas, making it the number one gambling destination in the world!

The hotel's atrium is home to several restaurants. The casinos visited had relatively few slot machines compared to U.S. casinos. Most guests are from mainland China and I guess they're not into slots.

The Macau Tower is one of the main tourist attractions, rising 60-floors above the surrounding area and offers bungee-jumping to the brave!

Nice views from up here. Macau....very impressive.

Club Reports: Gangnam Style! (Seoul)

Living it up "Gangnam Style" in Seoul, South Korea!  A song by the same name last year brought fame and popularity to Korean Wave music, aka K-Pop music.

Sightings of "Psy" are all over the city. Gangnam itself is a wealthy and trendy neighborhood in Seoul, south of the downtown core. It is very much a bar, night club and restaurant district.

Such as XIX Bar.

As was ICON Lounge.

This one was simply called "Club DJ" and featured Dance music. As my visit to Seoul was just a 20-hour stopover that followed a 14-hour flight from the U.S., I was way too tired to do more than dine and then go to sleep! Sadly, no actual club visits! 

Greetings From Korea

Greetings from Seoul, South Korea.  I've come over to Asia on this Korean Air Boeing 777 for a vacay and won't be able to visit beautiful Pleasure Island for a short time.  No worries; our team of Save Pleasure Island Blog roving reporters are on Island patrol 24/7 so we'll know if there's any news to post. So stay tuned!  Meanwhile, hope to visit a few dance clubs and theme parks on this side of the planet and will report on those too.  Articles may post at odd times due to the time differences.  Please hold down the fort Island.  It's still worth saving!

PI Update: Causeway Continues To Grow

Night or day, it's always reassuring to arrive at Downtown Disney and see the Pleasure Island signs all lit up!  It means there's still hope.

The No. 5 Bridge continues to stretch further and further towards its destination.  Beginning behind the Characters In Flight ticket booth, it wraps its way around the waterside of BET Soundstage and Adventurers Club.

Demolition walls on the landside will block views of whatever demolition and construction takes place over there.  There is also a blocking wall there on the waterside to take away any temptation for someone to jump off the bridge and onto the tethered balloon's launching platform.

You can see here that the pedestrian/stroller causeway already stretches past Adventurers Club.

And will soon come past Paradiso 37and connect to the Pleasure Island water taxi pier.

And a good time was being had by all!

Meanwhile on the other side of the Island, prep work is underway for the first of two new Parking Garages to be built, this one where parking lots J/K were located.

You can see where the original pavement was located and now dug up. Progress is slowly being made!  We just don't know for what.

PI Update: 8TRAX Demolition Halted?

One never knows what one is going to find when  you cross this bridge to Pleasure Island.  But one thing certainly not expected was to find 8TRAX still standing!

When we last visited a week ago a backhoe was crunching away at it, hauling away the memories with the debris!  So why did the demolition stop?  Is what's left of the building going to be repurposed?  Or is this just a temporary stay of execution?

We don't know. We have heard some recent chatter about Disney Springs having 2 nightclubs when it's all said and done.  But we've been up and down this road before.

For now, 8TRAX remains!  Celebrate Good Times!
