Club Report: Club V Nightclub (DJ Heavygrinder)

Club V, the nightclub aboard Victory Casino Cruises gambling ship operating from Port Canaveral.  On Friday and Saturday evening sailings, the club brings in DJ's playing EDM!
DJ Evolve was on early playing a lot of Dance.
DJ Tooltime was on next playing mostly Breaks.
You can never go wrong with Go-Go girls!
Spotted: Chilling prior to her set, LA-based but Orlando favorite DJ Heavygrinder (USA).  Had not got to see her play since Electric Daisy Carnival - Orlando back in May, 2011.
DJ Docta Dawe was on next and with more Breaks and House.
These girls were the only ones dancing at this point!
Well we finally got a few people on the floor!
Spotted: Social Menace was in the house!
About 11:30pm Heavygrinder finally came on.
It was great to see here on the decks.!
Dance activity on the floor did pick up.
And people were having a good time.
But it was nothing like the crowds that came out for DJ Icey last September or Baby Anne last November.  The big difference though is that those were Saturday night shows when people from Orlando had time to drive over.  It's just not practical for many to do the same on Fridays since the ship sails at 7pm. That entails getting off from work early and then making the hour drive over.  In fact, the entire ship including the casino was surprisingly empty.
Heavygrinder plays tonight in West Palm Beach.  Sorry that the 200 people on Facebook who said they were coming.....didn't.

Club Report: Roxy Night Club (DJ Gareth Emery)

Back to Roxy Night Club, a venue that continues to host big-name EDM DJ's including Gareth Emery last night, the No. 7 DJ in the world per DJMag.
Opening DJ Robb Blak (Bikkuri Lounge, Suite B Lounge) played from opening to Emery coming on around 12:30am.
The place was filling-up as he played.
His music was close to 100% Trance which was befitting the evening since Gareth Emery is known as a Trance DJ.
It was a mix of both Vocal Trance and Non-Vocal Trance.
He was really animated with the music and the crowd was feeling it!
And by 12:30am they were ready for the headliner!
Spotted:  Just before taking over the boards, DJ Gareth Emery (GB) chatting with promoter JeffHTG while ShannonHTG looks on.
And then on he went!
And while he may have come to fame as a Trance DJ, most of what he played all night was House and Dance with very little Trance!
He too was quite animated, bouncing with everyone else to his selections.
He put on his current monster hit "Concrete Angel" shortly after 1am which of course drew a huge response from the packed club.!
That was followed shortly afterward by Skrillex' "Shout To All My Lost Boys" which somehow fit in just perfectly!
You can never go wrong with Go-Go girls!
Awesome sound system brought in along with interesting lighting effects.

No laptops here; everything was played off his CD's!
Emery moves on to Detroit/Pontiac tonight and then Governors Island/NYC tomorrow night.
Good view of the crowd.
And a good time was had by all!

Bar Reports: Graffiti Junktion, The Falcon, Dexter's of Thornton Park

EDITORS NOTE:  Nicole of the "Lafayette Girls" joins the Blog occassonally to give us her Bar Reports. This is a report from her recent visit to the Thornton Park area just east of downtown. Saturday night downtown in Thornton Park was pretty quiet.  There were people walking the streets and enjoying the outside patios, drinking with friends.  Thornton Park is dog friendly, so a lot of people that didn’t want to leave their pups at home brought them to the bar!
First stop was Graffiti Junktion for ladies night.  Graffiti Junktion is best known for their amazing burgers.   They are voted best burger in Orlando by Orlando Weekly.   Saturday night is Ladies night there, and both the inside and outside were busy.  Drink specials include 2 dollars beers and 3 dollar mixed vodka drinks.
No live music, but the place is surrounded with TV’s.  A great place to watch Football when the season comes around.
Beer specials!
The second stop along our Thornton Park walk was The Falcon.  The Falcon is an art gallery/bar. The art work hanging in the gallery was inspired by the movie “Alien.”  There is a DJ set up behind the bar playing house music.   Besides myself and my friend, only two other people were in the bar.

Dexter’s of Thornton Park was our next stop. It was nice and quiet with ½ off drink specials. This place is great to start the night out.  Drink specials start at 10pm, a nice stop before continuing on downtown.   Tuesday nights are $1 burger nights.  A nice and cheap date night!  THANKS NICOLE!!

Electric Daisy Carnival - Orlando Is Coming!

YES! Electric Daisy Carnival is returning to Orlando!  It's been long-rumored to be coming but there has always been that nagging doubt about whether the event would actually happen.  Well it's definitely happening......although we still can't tell you the exact dates.

EDC came to town on Memorial Day weekend in 2011.  After nearly a month-long period of no rain in Orlando, there was rain that first night of the two-night event.  Lots of it.  With lots of lightning and thunder too!  And organizers and the City of Orlando were ill-prepared for it.  There was a no-return policy for anyone that left Tinker Field yet there was next to nowhere to flee to.  The neighboring Citrus Bowl Stadium, which could have accommodated everyone under its bleachers, was not made available to anyone. The hour-long deluge fortunately subsided  but one bolt in the wrong place would have resulted in tragedy.  This time organizers have pushed the event to "Fall, 2012" to avoid our summer afternoon thunderstorms.

Last night, HTG Events, a local company that books DJ events into Orlando, held an informational meeting at The Abbey for anyone interested in volunteering to promote the 2012 edition of Electric Daisy Carnival - Orlando.  If you're interested you should submit this form.  The exact dates have not been announced but we're still hearing the November 9-11 weekend.  You might set that weekend aside just in case this is accurate because you don't want to miss it.  Last year more than 100 international DJ's came to Orlando at one time including Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, Benny Benassi, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Icey, Calvin Harris, Afrojack, Gabriel & Dresden, Chris Lake, Skrillex, Baby Anne, Heavygrinder, Datsik and on and on!!
