CW Update: Mini Golf Progress

Blog reader Mad Man Ray has forwarded to us photos of the construction zone in CityWalk where the new Miniature Golf course is going in. Appears there is going to be a buildings down there in the middle of it. I frankly can't figure out how they're going to squeeze two separate courses in there.
A different perspective from the CityWalk overpass. Thanks Ray for continuing to keep readers informed!

Club Reports: 180 Grey Goose Lounge, Bliss Ultra Lounge, Independent Bar

Had not been out to 180 Grey Goose Lounge since the weather was still cool and space heaters dotted the outdoor viewing area. Had always wondered how the place was going to deal with heat and humidity.

Well for one thing they've brought indoors DJ John Campisano and his awesome House music mix. But he says that it more had to do with the threat of rain rather than just the heat and humidity outside.

And despite that wilting humidity, lots of people were outside enjoying the music and the view overlooking downtown Orlando. 180 refers to the view; it is located skytop in the northeast corner of Amway Center.
Inside was much more comfortable and no less crowded as the bar backdrop changed colors continuously. Lounge patrons are generally dressed upscale although nice jeans are also allowed.
Next stop Bliss Ultra Lounge for a couple drinks off their dollar menu which lasts until midnight. Long line outside to get in.

Saturday night means DJ Mickey Bono (BeatThrillerz, K5, RadioDanz.com, Florida Beat Radio, Party95.com, 1ClubFM.com) playing Top 40, Dance and House music. I don't understand why they keep messing around with the Saturday night format when Bono draws large crowds who are into his music format and jam the floor!

Like I said, jammed.

You can hear Mickey Bono's weekly "Seduction" mix show on those listed websites and on Soundcloud.

If it's Saturday night then somehow I'm going to end up at Independent Bar (dba Endent Bar until the sign gets fixed!)

DJ Smilin' Dan was in the booth pumping out 80's New Wave/Old Wave classics.

Like always the dance floor was completely full while the air was partly cloudy with a chance of haze!

And a good time was had by all including this bachelorette party enjoying the fun music!

Club Reports: The Groove, Club CityWalk, Latin Quarter, Bob Marley's

I have no recollection of the last time I went out to CityWalk on a Friday night but it's my duty to give you these club reports to keep you fully informed. And so I did.

The weekend resident DJ at The Groove is DJ King (Motion, BET Soundstage, Rock'n'Roll Beach Club, PI Live.

Really large crowd on hand last night for mostly Top 40 and mashed Promo Only-style mixes of old Top 40 and Hip Hop songs.  I've been hearing those same mixes in here since I first started coming here post-PI.

One nice thing about the continued merging of Hip Hop and House/Dance music is a lot of the Top 40 songs now are actually Dance songs too which makes coming here much better than it was three years ago!

Mom's Night Away event in The Groove!

We're calling that large outdoor expanse between Pat O'Brien's and Rising Star "Club CityWalk". And the music in that area was under the controls of DJ Smooth (Red Coconut Club, Florida Beat Radio, RadioDanz.com, Party95.com).

DJ Smooth was up on the Pat O'Brien's veranda spinning mostly Top 40.

Every time I walked by there were clusters of people dancing below so I'd have to call this use of the space successful.

Over at Latin Quarter DJ Leony (Sirius/XM BPM, RadioDanz.com, Club 23) was playing a lot of House/Dance with the expected Latin music formats.!

The club was no where near as crowded as what we see on Thursday nights for their free Ladies Night but it got crowded nonetheless after midnight.

DJ Leony is playing Progressive House this coming Tuesday night at the House of Blues in Atlantic City for DJ Expo.

Tonight (Saturday night) is the Jamaican Independence Day Party at Bob Marley's. Early admission is free but as a practical matter admission into the gated area will be $15.

Dropped by last night to check out the house band and the crowds. Based on past experience, a lot of the regulars here won't pay the $15 to get in tonight so they'll be in The Groove instead. TG will be wall-to-wall! I will skip that.

PI Update: Latest Island News

Back on the Island on a balmy summer evening, the new Apricot Lane trendy clothing store for ladies is moving quickly in their renovations and should be ready to open within 2 weeks. Located in the recently vacated Orlando Harley Davidson store, you can see that mannequins are already being put into place. (Not to be confused with the mannequins in place next door!)

Seed & mulch became Grass & mulch became Weed & mulch.

The new silver metallic human statue is drawing crowds adjacent the Adventurers Club.

While the new gold metallic human statue has replaced the red guitarist outside Soundstage Club.
Over at the Lily Pad, a small band played for passers-by. One of our leading Island sources is saying "Big news coming soon!"  So stay tuned to the Blog for the latest. In the meanwhile, have a Magical weekend!

Breaking News: New Construction Permits Filed for PI Clubs

Breaking news from beautiful Pleasure Island this evening! Disney has filed new construction permits (Notices of Commencement) with Orange County to rehabilitate the Mannequins, Adventurers Club, BET Soundstage and Comedy Warehouse buildings.  Absolutely no details provided except each Notice describes the improvements as, "Provide labor, materials and/or equipment for construction".

You'll recall on April 28th in a Save Pleasure Island Blog exclusive that we reported that further demolitions of clubs on the Island had been stopped and that the club buildings would be remodeled to be reopened by third parties as clubs.  Since then we have seen confirmation that the Hyperion Wharf development has been put on indefinite hold if not outright canceled and now we see these permits filed. Both actions support the accuracy of the rumor, which you can read in more detail here:
http://savepleasureisland.blogspot.com/2011/04/pi-update-new-rumor-says-further.html

Only club missing is 8TRAX and that might be because it's considered to be part of the Mannequins building. On the other hand BET and AC are one building and they have separate Notices. We'll see!  Big thanks to reader Jason71 for alerting the Blog about the permits posted on EPCOT Explorers Encyclopedia!

DJ Calvin Harris Coming To Orlando

One of the big surprises at this year's Electric Daisy Carnival - Orlando was the performance by DJ Calvin Harris (GB). I missed it but I've heard from a number of people about how great he was. Well he's returning to O-Town this Labor Day weekend for a Monday night show at Vain Nightclub (formerly Lyrica, formerly Cairo). DJ David Solano (USA) opens for him. Tickets$20.  Bounce!

CityWalk Techno Night Coming!!

I'm pleased to report that what I call Techno Night is returning to CityWalk on Labor Day weekend!! Like last year, it will take place on the Sunday night of the holiday weekend in a special cordoned-off area beside The Groove and Galaxy Bar. Full details are not yet available but last year entry was just $10, just a couple dollars more than the regular one-club ticket.

Last year close to a dozen different DJ's took turns spinning House/Techno/Dance music both outside on the lily pad and inside The Groove while people danced in both locations. The picture above shows the jammed area outdoors.

While this picture shows the jammed area inside. Unlike regular nights at CityWalk, everyone there knew what kind of music they were getting and that's why they were there!  I'll publish full details including advance ticket information as soon as I get it! This is a do not miss event for Mannequins fans!

Club Reports: Legends Sports Bar, Endent Bar

First time visit to Legends Sports Bar on South Orange Avenue across from ORMC. Large two-level facility with a 70's Disco party taking place last night!

DJ Ken Battles on the controls playing 70's Disco, Old School, R&B and........
The Cupid Shuffle! Can't get away from that song that was regularly played at Motion at midnight but it did bring up the dancers. Relatively small crowd on hand for what should have been a jammed-up event. But even I didn't hear about it until pretty late!

Lots of groovy ladies in the house! Those in charge made me the official Judge for the Men's and Ladies dance contests for which prizes were give out. Lots of fun and lots of 8TRAX memories!

The move from South Orange Avenue to North Orange Avenue also moved the music from the 70's to the 80's with my visit to Endent Bar. I told the owner Indie John that I was calling his place Endent Bar and he acknowledged that he needed to get his sign fixed, LOL.

DJ Dem Rok was in the control tower all night mixing the typical Saturday night early 80's New Wave hits with lesser-known music from the same era. It was really awesome!

The dance floor stayed full all night under the shiny disco ball!

And a good time was had by all!!
