Downtown Update: Comings & Goings

Sad to report that Embassy Irish Bar has gone out of business. It seemed like it was finally catching some crowds with Breaks on Thursdays, House on Friday and Decades (70's & 80's) on Saturdays but apparently not enough to pay the rent. The large bar is still in the center of the room so apparently they're looking for another bar to lease the spot. No word yet.

Independent Bar is no more either!

But unlike Embassy, they didn't close. They simply reverted to a name they used to use back before I started going there in the post-Pleasure Island era: Barbarella. We're told there will be renovations, new nights and new guest DJ's. I-Bar was hit hard after they reopened following last summer's covid closures. They had catered to an older clientele and many of them did not risk coming out of their houses after I-Bar reopened. The Goth crowd, a big part of their customers, never returned either. The change appears to be an attempt to get their former customers to return. We'll keep you updated.
