Growing up in Chicagoland back in the 60's & 70's meant you either listened to WLS or WCFL, the two competitive Top 40 stations located at 890 and 1000 respectively on your AM dial. (We didn't learn about the FM dial until much later when we discovered music in actual stereo and "Album Oriented Rock".) Each week at our local record stores including the record sections at Sears and Goldblatts, we could pick up a copy of that week's "Hit Parade" flyer which listed the top songs of that week based on radio requests and local sales figures. As you can see from this sample from late 1978, a lot of Disco dominated the charts. Great stuff! |
