Club Report: JJ Whispers

In Orlando clubbing history, one of everyone's favorites was JJ Whispers! (EDITORS NOTE: THE BLOG BELIEVES THE TRADEMARKED IMAGE ABOVE HAS EXPIRED OR HAS BEEN ABANDONED AND IT IS USED IN GOOD FAITH FOR THIS NEWS ARTICLE.)
Located on Lee Road on the side of a shopping center, the Top 40 music format always drew a crowd!  But the place has sat abandoned for more than a decade! (EDITORS NOTE: THE BLOG COULD NOT LOCATE THE COPYRIGHT OWNER OF THE ABOVE PHOTO AND IT IS USED IN GOOD FAITH FOR THIS NEWS ARTICLE.)
But not anymore.  The building is being demolished!
A Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market is coming!
Long live JJ Whispers!

Did not know that.

Yup.
The logo used is from the Kirkman location.
The original was more of a cursive font, as seen in the blurry neon.
Iconic spot.
Gone to not only Top 40, but iconic alt nights Ressurrection, 102 Jamz was closely tied in with shows from Rob Base to SHAQ hosting nights. Performances ranging from Chubby Checker, The Temptations, Stevie B, Skid Row, The Bangles, Bon Jovi and more. Comedy legends like Jerry Seinfeld & Eddie Murphy played there. MTV even did their Spring Break broadcast 3 years in a row importing 20 TONS of sand into the club.

WoW! I had never been since it closed before I moved to Orlando.

I worked there in the early 90s. During those years, I remember them being the best years of my life in that club. Seeing, Flock of Seagulls, Rob Base and SHAQ, The Orlando Magic basketball players would come into the club after a game, which was truly an experience I will never forget. There was a time I found myself walking with Magic Johnson out of the club as he was leaving, telling him what a huge fan I was, I was completely star struck. Resurrection nights were great, I worked the shot coffin, pouring liqueur down the throats of crazy spring breaker's throats. During Resurrection nights, the comedy club would turn into a Goth cave called 6 feet. The comedy club hosted some of the greatest acts alive at the time, I loved working that section of the club, not only did I get to meet some iconic comedians but made a ton of money at the same time. The owner "Tim" was from Europe, he and his Scottish friends would come in dressed in Kilts, such a doll, I miss him. I miss the people I worked and hung out with. Good times!

JJ Whispers was an awesome club. Best time ever. Unforgettable with several stages and jondras. Ashamed it was closed. Unique club was the best. Never seen a club like that. We were from San Antonio. TX and in awe. JJ Whispers won't be forgotten. Hated to move back to Texas.

Was the DJ in City Lights in the main room in the back in the middle 80's after Pete werner
left to open Manequins at pleasure island. Was probably the most fun I had as a DJ. My DJ
Name was Junior Jamz. Always missed this club...

Went there around 94’-95’ After Resurrection closed at 2am the club became Cloud 9. One of Orlando’s best rave venues with the best DJ’s around. It was the height of the era, when the music and party favors were the best.
