While Orlando's downtown nightlife district is not without problems, knocking it off would be a huge mistake. Many cities would kill to have the type of revenue being brought-in to our downtown at night. It's true that there is very little retail but the fault for that belongs to daytime inhabitants. Downtown's bars and clubs and the people drawn there help support many food vendors, fast-food joints and restaurants plus the many parking lots and garages. While Amway Center and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts have been welcome additions to the downtown scene, neither can sustain a vibrant downtown alone and there is anecdotal evidence that patrons of those two facilities come, watch their performances.....and leave. |

Change the law to serve to 3am, with a hard close at 4am.
Simple enough, gives everyone enough time to enjoy there drinks and gets you 2 hours more of drinking / partying.
the Amway Center and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts center are in the WRONG spot they should have been built in their own area!
You think that's in the wrong spot, wait till the build the new soccer stadium.
Anon at 10:36PM, extending the drinking time is probably up for discussion although I would not hold out much hope. Tampa added an hour a year or two ago.
Anon at 2:29AM, I don't think there is anything wrong with their locations. Amway Center is much closer to the downtown core now than Amway Arena was. The Dr. Phillips Center is also within the downtown core.
