Chatter out there this weekend is that longstanding downtown nightclub Firestone Live is changing its name to Venue 578. Supposedly this reflects the venue's change of focus from just DJ shows to live bands as well. However, I thought that was why they changed their name several years ago from Club at Firestone to Firestone Live. The 578 in the name comes from the club's address at 578 North Orange Avenue. The Firestone in the old name came from the location's original status as a tire store. At least it was original. This Venue name is hardly that. Let's hope this ain't so.
UPDATE: The "Firestone Live" part of the club's marquee sign has been removed. The venue is indeed becoming Venue 578.
