Club Report: Atlantic Dance Hall

Remember last week when I reported how busy it was at Atlantic Dance for a Thursday night? Well it was dead last night.....perhaps 20 people in the entire club. DJ Talie kept the music moving but there just wasn't anyone there to move to the music. You're sure to remember Talie from Motion! (See January 1st article for her Motion pic) She was the only female DJ on the Pleasure Island staff. She next spins at ADH on Friday, November 6th. Fridays are always better!

Meanwhile over at CityWalk, 80's Night at The Groove was really crowded as was Hoochie Mama Night at Latin Quarter. Halloween Horror Nights was packed....just 2 more nights remaining if you're considering going.

I remember Tallie and am not a fan...she is not really that great of a DJ (just my opinion). I was at the Dance Hall in May and it was pretty slow as well.

I think she is a good DJ. I didn't care for Motion much but if you judge her by ability to mix songs together naturally and ability to talk over and 'hit the bridges', I think she's really good.

gee Bob what an awful pic!

20 people? I got to ADH last night @ 12:30am, and there were about a hundred. Still looked sparse on that big dance floor.

Anon #1, I agree with Anon #2.

Anon #3, I agree with you. My photographer has been fired and the new one promises to do a better job! PUI is not allowed. My apologies to Talie for the crappy photo.

Anon #4, I was there 11-11:30pm and it was empty. Sounds like it really picked up later. I was told there was a large contingent of CM's over in Jellyrolls; perhaps a lot of them came into ADH later on.

KingBob, I thought you might enjoy this. This is the annoucement of amenities for the new Disney Cruise Line Ship. Funny how they feel the need for an adult area on the ship but not at WDW!

"Nightclubs & Lounges

Nightclubs & Lounges on the Disney Dream fill the nights at sea with live music, dancing and socializing. Explore The District—the ship's adults-only entertainment area, home to 5 distinct lounges and nightclubs."

night clubs on a family ship! WOW that's because Disney s*cks!

Anon #5, thanks for sharing! Disney Cruise Lines is definitely a family ship yet THEY seem to recognize the need for an adults-only clubbing area. It's hard to fathom how they don't recognize that need for Disney World too.

Anon #6, yes, nightclubs on a family ship! Not family unfriendly in any way! If you want repeat customers, you've got to meet their needs.

Tallie is good DJ, problem is that you never know what type of crowd will walk into ADH. Lots of times, there is a odd mix of young/old and people who want to hear 70's and then Rap, makes it very challenging for any DJ.

Personally, I'd do away with the all request list format and go with more of a "limited" requests.

OR I'd do the following:

Wed: Dance Mix Smashups
Thurs: 80's - 90's Night
Fri: Video A Go-Go (Anything goes)
Sat: Saturday Nights W/ DJ Pat.

I'd also promote each theme night around property, on the TV channels, in hotel lobby's and have fliers given to guests as they check in.

But, what do I know?

Jason you're exactly right, they should do theme nights, but they won't because of the "convention crowd" that might pack a place and want 70s/80s on the top 40s night or crazy things like that. It's too bad and if they wanted to get a good following locally, they would do exactly as u suggested, but add a techno night :-)

Yeah, or they could theme it based on the former club names: 8TRAX Night, Mannequins Night, Motion Night, Soundstage Night. Disney owns the trademarks; they COULD do it.

Ain't gonna happen though. As with a private party, they've got to cater to the diverse interests of the hotel guests staying there.

FYI, I did some snoopin around on Friday Night @ ADH. (very nice crowd, BTW) They said no chance at a PI revival.

The "conventional wisdom" is that PI will never reopen with any clubs.

However, the Mouse is known to work in mysterious ways.

Disney shut down the clubs you had to pay to get it (mannequins,8trax......) and leaves open the free one (ADH) I just don't understand this????? I know that PI is more upkeep BUT it also made more money and is easier to find! the people who run this world are NUTS close PI because of the Adult clubs but leave the other open DUH!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

"but they won't because of the 'convention crowd' "

Right, since Disney is trying to be all things to everyone. Hmmmm...that seems to be the same flawed logic which led to the demise and shutdown of PI.

Celebrate Tonight!

Joe they had conventions @ pi also and they paid for them there I don't know if they are free ADH so saying they ADH is for conventions is still no reason for shuting down PI! the convention people paid a lot of money to be @ PI!

To clarify, The Westin Swan and Dolphin hotels contracted with Disney years ago for Disney to operate a close by night club for them. That night club is ADH. It's their for the nightlife convenience of Swan & Dolphin guests which tend to be convention and meeting people. Disney does not advertise the place and except perhaps in the hotels themselves, the hotels don't advertise the place. I did an article about this months ago and I forget how long the contract lasts but its at least through 2013 if not longer. So ADH will be there at least that long. If we want the place to be popular with locals, WE have to be the ones to get the word out. The convention & meeting guests will come anyway because they're there.
