PI Update: Just Five Years Ago

Let's cross this bridge one more time to beautiful Pleasure Island.....but 5 years ago this month!

At Adventurers Club, the cupula roof was changing.

While heavy renovations to the exterior and interior walls were in progress. Nonetheless, you can go into the replacement The Edison and still "feel" some of the prior AC features.

Planet Hollywood was being renovated into Planet Hollywood Observatory. Interestingly, while the sign above the front entrance does indeed say "Observatory", the venue itself still just goes by the Planet Hollywood name.

An empty lot still remained between the gelato shop and Raglan Road.

And Erwin Pearl Jewelry didn't have any customers. This day in history.

WDW Update: The NYE Parties Are On!

I know we've gone back and forth on this subject but it's only because Disney was sending out conflicting signals about their intent for NYE. Well we can now inform you that NYE DJ dance parties at EPCOT are ON for December 31st as we've received confirmation on the subject from several different DJ's. We're working on a roster for the night including operating hours so stay tuned for that information. Atlantic Dance Hall will be having their NYE party as well. Also, there will be FREE DJ dance parties at Disney Springs this year and we'll include that information once it's all compiled. If you plan to be at EPCOT, be aware that not only do you need a ticket/admission for that night but you also must make reservations for each guest.

AAHZ Update: AAHZ Is Back!!

The AAHZ Reunion is returning this year! Taking place on Thanksgiving Eve at The Beacham, the event will feature DJ Icey (USA), DJ Kimball Collins (USA), former Mannequins DJ Dave Cannalte (USA) and coming out of retirement for one night only, DJ Baby Anne (USA). EPCOT UPDATE: Latest On NYE

We're continuing to keep you apprised on the status of NYE at EPCOT. As you know, they annually have large DJ parties at various countries "around the world", except for last year when EPCOT closed early due to the covid19 situation. So will they be having parties this year? We still don't know but theme park hours on the WDW website have been updated for daily through December 30th. December 31st and later remain absent. They gotta make up their mind SOON!

 

UPDATE: EPCOT will be open until midnight on NYE. (As will MK & DHS). Looking at this pragmatically, this means they can close all the rides and restaurants at that time but still offer a NYE fireworks extravaganza at midnight. We don't know about the DJ parties yet but they could still have them and end them at 11:40PM as in the past and just not continue after the fireworks. We'll keep you updated.

PI Update: Halloween Season On The Closed Island

The year was 2011 and this was the only sign of Halloween on Pleasure Island. Located on West End Plaza adjacent Comedy Warehouse, this Mickey-shaped blowup hid the building that previously was home to so many laughs.

 
A year earlier, in 2010, the same blowup was parked outside Rock'N'Roll Beach Club.

ADH Update: What We Know About NYE

Will there be a NYE party at Atlantic Dance Hall this year? The answer is "probably" but we don't yet know the specifics. As we previously reported, we know that the night has been assigned to DJ Lu_s (USA). But we don't know what the hours will be, we don't know what the price will be and we don't know what will be included in the price. Disney has been very cautious about having too many people gather indoors but the parks are open, the rides are open with winding queues and Atlantic Dance Hall, while indoors, is massive. We'll keep you updated once we hear more!

DS Update: Cirque Du Soleil Reopening Next Month

After more than a year and a half hiatus due to Covid19, Cirque Du Soleil will reopen on November 18th with their new show "Drawn To Life".  "Watch in wonder as the beauty of Disney animation blends with the thrilling spectacle of Cirque du Soleil," says their advertising. Breaking News: The Groove & Red Coconut Club Are Not Reopening!

Several separate sources have informed Save Pleasure Island Blog that allegedly Universal CityWalk will not be reopening The Groove and Red Coconut Club. Both clubs closed early last year with the outbreak of Covid19. RCC had reopened earlier this year with no band and no dancing; yet it was dark again when we visited this past Friday night. The Groove had never reopened and we were wondering what was going on since clubs everywhere in town reopened long ago. But sources say they're not coming back and allegedly the stage in The Groove has already been split-apart with subs and lighting removed from the venue.

Back in 2014 the rumor-aggregator website Screamscape published a rumor that The Groove would be closing to use the space "for other projects". That never happened and indeed new lighting, sound and lasers were installed in the club. But now it appears CityWalk may be moving in a new direction amid separate rumors of them opening a shopping/club district over at their new Epic Universe theme park location off International Drive. Current rumors mention nothing about Bob Marley's, Pat O'Brien's or Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville but keep in mind that although there are certainly club aspects to each of them, they are also primarily restaurants. We'll keep you updated on this sad news.

ADH Update: NYE Party Is Currently On!

In case you missed the news, please be notified that DJ Lu-s (USA) will be the NYE DJ at Atlantic Dance Hall this year. No details are yet available for the annual event which of course did not happen last year because of covid19. We don't know the price, we don't know what the attendance limit will be and we don't know the party operating hours. (It wouldn't surprise us to see it open from 8PM to 1AM which is what current operating hours are.) It appears Disney continues to take a cautious approach to NYE both at ADH and at EPCOT. We will continue to keep you updated.

Taking place on Saturday, November 27th in Buffalo, NY., the event typically sells-out immediately but because the State of NY has a vaccination requirement for indoor events like this, there are extra tickets available.
