EULOGY: Motion

Ladies & Gentlemen, we are gathered here on this solemn occasion to mourn the passing of of one of our good friends. The dance club Motion's death was not unexpected but it was senseless as there was plenty of life left in her and she offered lots of good banquet and meeting space. She was killed so that a sidewalk could occupy her territory. Originally built by Merriweather Adam Pleasure, the building was used to manufacture fireworks until a cigar he was smoking caused a large explosion. Disney reopened the building in 1989 as Fireworks Factory, a pyrotechnic-themed restaurant. It closed in 1997 and reopened in 1998 as Wildhorse Saloon, a country music dance hall and BBQ restaurant. That closed in 2001 and reopened later that year as dance club Motion. Whether this was your favorite club or not and since this is a eulogy, your thoughts are most appreciated so please click on Comments below and post yours.

And I will start. My favorite memories are:
1) DJ Talie on the stage behind that famous DJ booth.
2) No matter who the DJ, rushing over there at midnight for the Cupid Shuffle & Cha Cha Slide.

Damn Bob...you took my memory! LOL... Cha Cha Slide at midnight. I remember nights at Mannequins & 8Trax and looking at my watch and grabbing everyone to head down to Motion to "Slide to the left..." and learning the "Charlie Brown" move! Motion was not a personal favorite, but the beer was still cold. And, after the demise of Videopolis East (before The Cage), I believe it was only club that still played music videos on the island. Goodbye Motion.... Thanks for all the good times and great memories!!

As I wipe the tears from my eyes, I will always remember the good memories. My fondest memory was the Wildhorse Saloon. When I moved here from New York, I felt like I struck GOLD when I discovered Pleasure Island. I said to myself, what a WONDERFUL place to be. We had so much variety at PI. I know that times change and things must go on.
When I took a walk recently to see the demolition, I said this is really happening. I am still sadened by all this. There is nothing we can do anymore, but just let it happen. It was real depressing. But they cannot "demolish" my good memories and good times I had and shared with my friends. Good Bye Motion, my dear friend.....

I meant "today's" or "up-to-date" music videos on the island, because we all knew that 8Trax still played music videos... :-)

Hated motion with a passion, sorry! Tallie and all other DJs in that venue were not very talented and the music just plain sucked.

I disagree. I didnt care for the music format but some of the videos they played were interesting and the djs mixed the songs well.

Agreed Anony 1:29. That is what I meant. It was about the people and videos combined. I preferred Mannequins, but it was nice to stop by Motion every once in a while.

Anon at 7:45pm, if you read this Blog then you really haven't moved on! :-)

Brian, I should have a report soon from Mister Sisters where Dawn tends on Saturday nights.

Damn Mouse, exactly!

Anon at 8:55pm, the Wild Worse predates my years with PI. Disney twice tried country music formats but always had give up because apparently the liquor revenue wasn't there.

Disney Echo, damn, that Amber is hot!

Anon at 11:19am, I won't miss Motion "specifically" because the mostly Hip Hop format was not for me, but I miss it because it was part of the whole PI scene. I thought the DJ's did a great job there, notwithstanding the music they had to play there.

"Yes" Motion will be missed, but hopefully Mannequins and 8 Trax and Comedy Wharehouse, and maybe Soundstage will all be active for nightlife for the adults.

Glad to see you like Amber, KingBob. Expect to see a lot more of her in the Echo as well as in my web site: http://foxfirestudios.net . I hope you like what's coming, and I can also do requests if you want. Remember to make your comments on the Disney Echo post Rich linked to.

Corporate suits once again flexing their "creative" muscles. They know what's best for us, don't you know that? I was at "Pleasure Island" recently, and "Westside" was BORING. How many Mickey knicknacks can one person buy? Pleasure Island was really unique. I guess too unique for corporate lawyers and execs to know what to do with it.

Echo & David, thanks for writing. Will try to get to your site this weekend and review it more closely. Mine was just a rushed visit.

Warren, the suits think they know what's best for THEM. Corporate-wise, profit-wise. But the decision to close PI in favor of more outsourced restaurants and shops really bit them in the ass!

PS-Readers, there's a reason why California generates the 4th highest number of readers to this Blog outside Florida. Unlike the other states which are home to many former fans who use to go clubbing at PI, California generates so many viewers for a very different reason. Hmmm, now what would California have to do with Disney? Think about it.

Motion was the best club on the Island and will never be forgotten

You sound like a bunch of old lame asses that need to let go (kingbob). I'm headed downtown

Hmmm, my Cali sources tell me many out there are just as concerned about PI as we are!

>I'm headed downtown.

Already beat you there. You're late.
