PI Update: The Island's Last Construction Site

Out at Pleasure Island this past Saturday night and snapped this picture of The Edison Orlando as progress continues. That tower scaffolding may be coming down soon; the former electric plant smoke stack located there looks completed.  The new rotunda which replaced Adventurers Club's old rotunda looks complete as well.  From around back, the building is generally still open so the project has a long way to go.
Over alt WDWMagic website, contributor WDWtraveler posted that "The non-Edison food outlet that was to be at the bottom of the structure pulled out earlier this year. The Edison now has the whole building to themselves." Presumably The Edison will still occupy the upper and lower floors of their building but what could be changing is the purpose if Walt's or Walt's Place, located in the building under construction next to The Edison. And what of The Neverland Tunnels project, pictured above, located underneath the Island's West End Plaza?  We don't know but Disney Springs could sure use a nightclub! There currently is nothing for adults to do at Disney Springs at night after 10PM.

  1. I know we've heard a lot about Walt's going in next door, but doesn't it look like it could actually be some sort of entertainment venue? I mean, the main part of the building is shaped like it could house a dance floor/theatrical seating, and the spotlights around the building make it seem more than just the usual restaurant. Plus, Walt's at Disneyland Paris seems very different than what they're going for here...

Plus, if it's a Disney-owned restaurant, why haven't they made an announcement? I would think Walt's would be a big announcement for the area, if that's what it was going to be.

I mean, I doubt it's Mannequins 2.0 or anything like that, but maybe there's more to it than just another restaurant at Disney Springs?

  2. Troy: The roof of "Walt's" or whatever it will be does have a shape which indicates some sort of performances could take place within. If it's not going to be yet another restaurant, than what? Sadly, there is no indication they want a night club in Disney Springs.

  4. BUT Disney HAS not ticked off the HARDCORE PI people!
anyone going to MAYBE Mannequins 2.0 IS just hanging on to a dream! OR any other kind of CLUB! If the do OPEN a "CLUB" this is a HUGH slap in the face!
never forget what Disney said!! "make the area more Family friendly" OR something close to that statement? SO now WHY would you GO back on your word? and WHY would anyone WHO really cared about PI go and hang like we all DID?

  5. Anon at 1:14 - Disney's more family-friendly environment seems to be the same amount of, if not more, alcohol, just less dancing. We all know that PI wasn't shut down for the family-friendly explanation, but their ability to make more money leasing out the island.

This spot could be some new nightlife Mecca for us - if it is, I would think it's more along the lines of a House of Blues concert venue, perhaps? Or it could end up being a Walt's restaurant with a special theater for a...I don't know, Hall of Presidents-type show focused on Walt Disney.

    Wow, that sounds awful....

  6. Troy, we had hope that when Splitsville opened that there would be some decent DJ dance party taking place. We followed the reinvention of the Mannequins building, hoping that there would be some sort of DJ dance party. We followed the creation of STK, hoping there would be a DJ dance party. Since the clubs closed, there has been nothing but disappointment out there with every development. So I wouldn't hold my breath about anything good coming from Walt's or Neverland Tunnels. A performance venue for the return of Comedy Warehouse would be good though.
