PI Update: Island Memories

Ahhh, the memories. Reader ClubMaster wanted you to remember the Colonel so he sent this to us. Who can forget the Colonel! Recently offered for sale at Disney Property Control, he was quickly pulled from the auction when that fact was posted here on the Blog. So where is he hiding nowadays? Disney offices? Pleasure Island? Hong Kong?

Last November we gave you a link to reader Frank Nosalek's website which has now been updated with even newer Pleasure Island club photos. Thought you'd like to see the new ones taken right before the club names were removed as well as the old ones taken post-closure but prior to RRBC and Motion being demolished:

look at it this way you have had 54,687 people look at this site! and these people DIDN"T come! if they did it would still be open!

  5. WDI = Walt Disney Imagineering
aka the creative team behind Disney Parks & Resorts; they are the project teams that "build the magic"

where were they when It WAS open? then? sure there has been over 100,000 look and over 200,000 hits BUT still? they do not come out and support PI clubs back then!
heck PI's capacity is just over 7,000! and couldn't get maybe 2,000 out on Saturday Night the BUSY night!
did you come and support PI clubs?
and again PI WOULD BE OPEN if it was still busy!

  9. There is no doubt that PI was nowhere near as busy during the final few years as it was in the early years, when it could be as packed mid-week as it was on weekends. But not a lot of profits were being put back into the product either to keep it new and fresh. And the marketing budget all but disappeared beyond 2002. But you're correct to some extent; reduced profits near the end got them thinking of other ways they could increase profits for that space. But their plan didn't work out so well.

  10. the thing that got me was the time I said the a manager at Mannequins! I told him they need to advertise. he tole me that PI (disney) did not and never did I said what I saw an advertisement for PI on the corner of 436 & 50! on a billboard (back in 2000ish)
and in the end they did nothing!

  11. Sure PI advertised, just not much in the end. I used to cut out the 20% Off 1-night Ticket coupons, when we had guests over. Those were in some of the tourist information magazines found in hotel lobbies.
