8TRAX Reunion Tomorrow Night!

TOMORROW NIGHT......8TRAX REUNION!!

Taking place at The Hammered Lamb on Orange Avenue just south of the Princeton exit off I-4, the event will feature former 8TRAX DJ Talie (USA) and former 8TRAX DJ Doc Wells (USA). They will be joined by one of Orlando's greatest DJ's ever, Jimmy Joslin (USA). Open tomorrow night from 7PM till midnight, later if a crowd hangs around. All 70's Disco! FREE ADMISSION.

CW Update: Epic Universe Preview Center

If you're out at Universal Orlando Resort anytime soon, be sure to check out the Epic Universe Preview Center which is located in CityWalk. And since CityWalk parking becomes free nightly at 6PM, you can come out here for this alone and it won't cost you anything.

The center is large. There is a large Epic Universe diorama in the center of the room and then retail items surround it.

The diorama has amazing detail.

PI Update: Dopey Decision

As we commemorate this week's 15-yr anniversary of the announcement that Disney would be closing all the Pleasure Island clubs in three-month's time, we remember this excellent tee shirt purchased at Hanes Design-A-Tee. We think it was shirts like this that eventually caused the store to be shuttered, lol.

 

PI Update: Remembering The 1-Yr Anniversary

Amazingly, 15-years ago this week in June, 2009, the announcement that Pleasure Island clubs would be closing in three months time happened. Dwayne Bevil of the Orlando Sentinel posted a column telling readers about all the changes that happened in Downtown Disney during that year. Sadly, the Sentinel's link to that article no longer works. But we've posted the main portion of it above including the columnist's final words regarding those changes: "All of them could have happened without closing the nightclubs!"

 

Club Reports: Pretty Please, Monkey Bar, Iron Cow

Concert Report: DJ Armin Van Buuren (Omnia Nightclub Las Vegas)

We spent last night at Omnia Nightclub in Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. DJ Armin van Buuren (NL) was the headliner. Because of our late night out and our early flight back to Orlando this morning, we couldn't get the article loaded until now. You can find the pics here.

PI Update: Tattoo For You

It's been known forever that you can get a genuine tattoo at Universal Studios. Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company has a branch upstairs at Universal CityWalk.

Well you still can't get a genuine tattoo at Walt Disney World but now you can get a Henna tattoo at the kiosk (pictured under the umbrella) at Disney Springs. It's located on Pleasure Island's lower level, beneath STK Steakhouse and adjacent that Sock kiosk.

DS Update: Disney Springs VS Florida Mall

When Disney Springs first opened, they had two very unique stores that could only be found there. One was Uniqlo, the Japanese fast fashion store.

And the other was Zara, the Spanish fast fashion store. But now both stores also have locations in the Florida Mall. Unique no more.

CW Update: Remembering The Groove

In the post-Pleasure Island era, we did give The Groove at Universal CityWalk a try.

Nightlife in Orlando centered around downtown until Pleasure Island came along. If that wasn't enough, the addition of CityWalk was pretty much the end of downtown Orlando. In the early history of The Groove, they actually played EDM/Dance music there. Sadly, in the post-PI era, The Groove had switched to pretty much Top 40 including a lot of Hip Hop.

It did stay busy though on weekend nights so we can't fault them. The Groove closed along with everything else during Covid19 and while the other clubs there slowly reopened, The Groove never did.

PI Update: East Side, West Side.....

East Side, West Side, all around the town. Yes, 10 years ago this month, Downtown Disney was abuzz with construction activity nearly everywhere. The name change to Disney Springs had not yet been announced so we didn't know that was happening, but construction crews were all over the place demolishing and building. Finally, 6 years after the clubs had closed, activity was happening.

DJ Talie Cancels Appearance at 8TRAX Reunion

We've been informed by DJ Talie (USA) that she will be unable to play tunes at the upcoming 8TRAX Reunion on Saturday, June 29th at the Hammered Lamb in Orlando. She tells Save Pleasure Island Blog that she has not DJ'd since 2013 and is unable to put together her playlist using the digital equipment that will be in the booth that night. DJ Doc Wells (USA) will still be performing along with DJ Jimmy Joslin (USA). We're hopeful Talie will still appear at the event, even if she's unable to DJ that night. She tells us she has some Pleasure Island logo merchandise to give away that night. We'll know soon. Hope to see many of you there. Admission is FREE!

D&B at FKMF

The Forbidden Kingdom Music Festival begins tomorrow at the Central Florida Fairgounds in Orlando and is primarily a Dubstep/Heavy Bass/Riddem festival. But Day 1 of the two day festival includes a bunch of DnB DJ's at the Mystic Stage. The lineup includes Delta Heavy (GB), Mefjus ft. MC Daxta (A), Reaper (USA) and Siren (GB), among others. The current mission of Save Pleasure Island Blog is to keep you informed about what is happening with our beloved Island now that it has been converted to Disney Springs. Factual information is provided when available but much of what is printed is rumor-based. Please understand that rumors by their very nature are very unreliable. DS Update: What's Next For the NBA Experience Building?

So what's next for the massive NBA Experience building? Disney has not announced anything but we can think of one good idea? How about a nightlife building with 2-3 dance clubs and a selection of bars? There is a dearth of nightlife in Disney Springs and they currently roll-up the sidewalks around midnight. Adult guests are getting in their rideshares and heading over to International Drive where clubs operate until 2AM. The former NBA building is directly across from House of Blues which does have shows operating until 1AM so Disney Security is already hanging around that location. So why not capitalize on guests who do want options in the evening? There's a ton of money to be made!
