Pointe Orlando Sadness

As you may have seen, we were out at the Pointe Orlando complex along International Drive this past Saturday night. Downstairs, the 2-story complex is dominated by restaurants and they seemed to be doing well. Maggiano's, Capital Grille, Marlow's Tavern, The Pub, Hampton Social, Blue Martini and others all had crowds. It's upstairs that was depressing. Lafayette's Music Hall: OUT OF BUSINESS

B.B. Kings Blues Club: OUT OF BUSINESS

Adobe Gila's: OUT OF BUSINESS

The Hooters up there is also long gone. Over where the twin clubs Matrix and Metropolis once provided nightclubs for the likes of Justin & Britney, Improv is in the Matrix spot but Metropolis remains vacant. Cuba Libre and Regal Cinemas remain temporarily shuttered but hopefully will reopen soon.
Pointe Orlando opened in 1998 as a retail complex anchored by FAO Schwartz.  During the last recession they reinvented themselves as a restaurant/nightlife complex. Looks like they may need to reinvent themselves again, at least upstairs. Because right now, it's depressing.
