GPS coordinates set and for the first time in 9.25 years, the destination was Pleasure Island on a Saturday night! |
Opening one week ago for New Years Eve, this was our first visit to The Edison. This old steam clock was part of the building in its former role as the power plant for the town of Disney Springs. |
But you won't find The Colonel or other AC characters. What you will find are numerous well-stocked bars scattered throughout the complex. |
Arriving around 10:30PM, the place was already packed with every one of the numerous tables occupied! If you're coming, recommend you arrive early. |
From the Mezzanine (Link), you can look down below to the dance floor and band stand. |
The band started at 11PM and presumably there had been an earlier set. The vocalist was dressed in a 1920's-30's wardrobe which is also how most of the staff was dressed. |
Numerous pillars left over from Adventurers Club can cause sight line problems if you're sitting away from the action which is why you'd want to arrive early. |
After the band set, a 5-minute "burlesque" routine was performed. They were very good and it's cute with no "stripping". Nonetheless, it's the most risque thing I've ever witnessed at Disney! |
That was followed by a 5-minute aerialist routine. |
Followed by about a 30-minute dance set from DJ Mynd (USA). During the 11:30PM set there was a lot of Swing such as "Zoot Suit Riot" but in his next set it was older 80's & 90's hits. |
The routine then repeated, with the band back on and apparently a different, more buxom singer! |
And for the first time in 9.25 years, there was dancing on Pleasure Island! |
Burlesque girls getting ready for another set. |
You can never go wrong with Burlesque girls! |

My first visit to The Edison (WDW) I noticed the band was using iPads on music stands as their "sheet music." I asked one of the managers. "Are those 1930's/40's iPads?" She didn't really have an answer. "I guess" I continued "I expected more thorough attention to your theme since you 'replaced' one of Disney's most popular attractions ... EVER! After several more visits, it is now clear that the only "replacement" is geography." So sad. The only event dumber than closing the ADVENTURERS CLUB was replacing it with such a weak and unengaging joint. I have actually visited the original EDISON in downtown Los Angeles. It is an authentic (real place) 1920's electrical substation, two stories below street level! The entertainment was mediocre college-level dancing girls in faux "CABARET" (the movie) garters and skimpy bras. But the choreography was so uninspired that the shows could not have been less sexy. As for their much-touted "steampunk" theme ... well, the general manager was in a grey, three piece suite he must have bought at J.C. Penney's. Bartenders were friendly but nothing about their attire was anything other than cliched black & white bar clothes. Very disappointing - - I wore a safari jacket, bamboo cane and pith helmet. LOTS of other guests thought I was character in the club. I WAS, but not an employee. When in WDW, skip The Edison. It is an expensive disappointment.
ReplyDeleteThe drinks are expensive and over the past year the 1930's theming has seemed to become less important. But it's the only dance club on Pleasure Island so I accept it for what it is.
