Club Reports: The Groove, Vinyl Arts Bar

Overdue for a visit to The Groove at Universal CityWalk so that's where I began my Friday night.
New lighting has been added up above.
And a new video wall back behind the booth.
Friday night resident DJ Chino (USA) taking over at 11PM.
Dance floor a bit spartan at this early hour and opening with two Latin songs didn't draw many more.
By 11:30PM things were picking-up quickly.  I was told that they're getting late crowds this summer.
Sources say you can never go wrong with Go Go girls!
Like I said!
The music was 100% Hip Hop hits with a couple Reggaeton songs around 11:30PM.
Last saw Chino play last December when he opened for DJ duo The Chainsmokers (USA) at House of Blues.
Much more crowded when I headed out at midnight and there was a line at the door! This Thursday on the Blog we'll give an overview of club options at CityWalk.
In desperate need of some House music, headed over to Vinyl Arts Bar.
Found DJ Vincentiulian (RO) already on the decks!
Nowhere near as crowded as what we experienced here two weeks ago for Kimball Collins (USA) but the small dance floor stayed active nonetheless.
House music all night long!
His selections were an interesting mix of completely non-vocal songs along with some that had nonsensical words in them and ambient sounds.
Good stuff!  Vincentiulian plays tonight in Austin.
A good time was had by all!

  1. the GROOVE is so small! but to put a DJ in the area he/SHE is now is just DUMB! WELL I guess now they can SAY look it is packed! LAME!!

  2. The dance floor did become smaller when they put that VIP area towards the front but to say The Groove is small is just plain inaccurate. And I think the vibe improved when they put the headlining DJ up front on the stage versus that glass booth that used to exist in the right front corner.

  3. This place needs to be closed and burn down to the ground. Rebuild from scratch. Why live with a club layout from the 80's. Yeah I don't agree totally with the idiots whom put the vip area on the dane floor....WTF people. Do they even open upstairs anymore? Enough said. Video wall is just a bunch of HD TV's who the hell though up this crap...

  4. yes the OLD dj booth was DUMB. to have a full stage with DJ now is a waste. VIP AREA in my opinion is dumb but one way to MAKE more money. not that the drinks and to get in are over priced already. that and NO year pass LIKE some other place used to do. they didnt need VIP area

  5. Anon at 3:12PM, I don't understand your hate. If you don't like the place, don't go. The place has been freshened with new lighting and new screens so it looks like it will be around awhile. That's far better than the rumor we had a few years ago that they were closing the place down. Yes, they have an upstairs and they open it when the crowd projections justify it.

Anon at 8:05PM, more hate. The Groove has long-had VIP areas both downstairs and upstairs. Roping off the front is relatively new and I wasn't happy with it either but it typically does sell out for bottle service and clubs make their money from bottle service. It's true that CityWalk does not offer an annual pass. There was some talk of it after Pleasure Island closed but nothing ever came of it so apparently they don't feel the need.

  6. So they took down the techno's and replaced them with standard 'club' LED lighting. Really? Flash and trash as some would say. Q Where's or who's the LD? KingBob ask how much $$ they spent here on this club. Band aid on now.... but it still bleeds...bad! I stop going here when they kicked AJ's DJ out..God I miss Scott..

  9. If you're talking about DJ Scott King, you can catch his sets at Disney Springs and Sea World.
