DS Update: Cirque Rumor

One of the rumors going around the Springs is that not only is Cirque Du Soleil ending its La Nouba show late this year, the entire building is going to be demolished in order to open up the areas to the west for further expansion of the West Side.  I've heard two different rumors.  One just has the strip along Village Lake become home to more restaurants.  Clearly all the new restaurants in Disney Springs have been a big hit and the Blog's skepticism that there were too many tables and too few mouths to feed has been wrong.  I don't know where all those mouths have come from but Disney Springs has become quite the dining destination.
The second rumor surrounds has Disney putting a new adult nightlife destination out in that area beyond Cirque and House of Blues!

  1. I don't necessarily believe either of these rumors. With the prospect of HOB and Bongo's leaving and those properties being redeveloped....I doubt an expansion plan for even more dining options is on the table at this point. Also, hasn't it already been announced that there is a new Cirque show in the works for the current location??

  2. I've heard similar stuff, though likely from different sources. I think Cirque will return - the show does pretty well, from what I understand, though it wouldn't surprise me to see some renovations on the facility.

Now the other expansion on the other side of West Side is possible, and would be awesome if Disney would do it, but you're getting awfully close to Saratoga Springs. I can't imagine DVC folks want a nightlife venue *that* close to their resort, especially with the rates they're paying to stay there.

Of course, eliminating Cirque would help with the logistics there, but...I guess we'll just see!

  4. I would love to see a rotating show in that location, like the Disney Broadway shows.

  5. I'm more interested in that the restaurants are the ONLY thing making money... the shops, not so much.

  7. Lets be serious. Disney aren't ever going to open any new clubs. They seem to want rid of HOB at both WDW and DL.

However, surely they're going to need some kind of entertainment options. With DQ and Cirque going, there wont really be much entertainment venues left for anyone, even kids!

  8. HOB contract expires in 2018. An iron clad contract controlled by Disney. To keep the "disney" image, disney controls what artist/shows are booked in the venue the past 8 years. Live Nation wants out. HOB restaurant may stay since it rings in big. Cirque will move on, as Vegas is their place without creative restriction. The suits will make a last minute decision, as they have no clue what direction to go until it falls in their lap. Nightlife past 11pm-12........ long gone
