Starting out an Orlando Saturday night at the Universal CityWalk complex and their largest dance club, The Groove. |
Resident DJ M-Squared coming on at 11pm. |
The music was the expected Hip Hop and Top 40 mix. |
While it was not exceptionally crowded early, that line shown in the first photo above stretched well past Fat Tuesday so it was soon to be packed! |
Pricing remains stable; $7.00 for one club or $12.77 for a CityWalk Party Pass to all their clubs. |
You can never go wrong with Go Go girls! |
Always fun times at The Groove. |
Second stop was the Red Coconut Club in CityWalk. |
DJ Leony (USA) in the booth playing one of his famous House sets during my visit! |
Club and dance floor were already packed! |
Thursday and Saturday nights are Latin nights here but you'll hear EDM as well like his mixshows on Sirius/XM and RadioDanz! |
DJ Leony joins David Tort and other DJ's for Beatgasm at The Clevelander Hotel rooftop this Friday night during Miami Music Week! |
Fun times in the Coconut! |
Can't do a Saturday night without a stop for a drink at Independent Bar! |
Lighting tech Ernie was keeping the club pulsing! |
Music was 80's New Wave! |
Dance floor ebbed and flowed with the music selections but was overall pretty packed! |
When PI closed I was told about this place and checked it out. Been coming now for more than six years! |
The other downtown surprise in the post-PI era was Suite B Lounge and it's been six years for me here too |
Arrived to find DJ KL2 (E) in the booth spinning Breaks. I might have detected a little House in there too! |
The club was packed! |
Suite B Lounge is Orlando's home to Breakbeats! |
Colorful dancers! |
KL2 is from Andalusia in southern Spain and we'll see him again later this week in Miami! |
It ain't a party without the Mazors! |
DJ Gustolabs (PE) taking over a little after 1AM. |
You can never go wrong with Go Go girls! |
Spotted on the dance floor: DJ CD-Mack and his wife Mandie |
Spotted harassing Gustolabs: DJ Beni Hill |
Spotted on the dance floor: Mr. & Mrs. Geebo |
Spotted in VIP: DJ Rob Si-Dog Silas. His pool party next Sunday in South Beach features DJ Icey, Baby Anne and KMFX! |
A good time was had by all! |
Bob, you didn't mention the music played at the Groove or how it was played.. ;)
ReplyDeleteIf you had visited the Groove back in 2013, it was a much different atmosphere. The hip hop wasn't as prevalent, you heard more than 1 minute of each song and the unnecessary scratching wasn't there.
Other than Mondo, I think the Groove should return to the Djs from back in 2013.
What are your thoughts since you go there on a somewhat regular basis?
They've been playing the same music in The Groove in the 6+ years I've been going in the post-Pleasure Island era. That means mostly Hip Hop and current Top 40. I heard the early DJ last night (prior to M-Squared) play part of a same manufactured music mix I heard DJ King play there years prior. So I can't say that the current contract with Electromagic is any worse than what we had before. In fact, they've brought in DJ Mondo and DJ Tone who do play EDM at The Groove.
ReplyDeleteI would disagree with the mostly hip hop comment. Back in 2013 before this current company, the Djs played some of it but nothing like the ones currently in there. In the end, it's all a matter of taste but this hip hop heavy, quick mixing, scratching stuff doesn't do it for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all that's said. The worst ever was the fake Euro trash with the constant chit chat and scratching. But i'm hearing a big change is coming for the re-branding of "the Groove".. Time will tell.
ReplyDeleteI'd start with the Djs. That's key to whatever you do in there. Escort the scratching and constant chatter on the mic right out the front door...
ReplyDeleteI think they make the DJ's at The Groove mention the drink specials.
ReplyDeleteI do miss DJ Willy who I think worked for AJ's group, not Electromagic. HE would play some cool House sets!
Rebranding of The Groove?
