PI Update: Updated Photos

Save Pleasure Island Blog reader Hayley has shared some photos with us that she recently took while riding on the Characters In Flight tethered balloon.  This pic of Pleasure Island is particularly useful in that it shows what we speculated in last Tuesday's article was an outdoor amphitheater being built where Rock'n'Roll Beach Club used to stand.  This picture certainly supports that what is being built there has the curved look of an outdoor concert venue of some sort.  Also of interest in this picture is the waterside construction of the new Boat House restaurant plus a new building in the space behind where Fuego by Sosa Cigars used to stand.  Take a look at construction adjacent Mannequins and then a new building going up next to 8TRAX where the Curl by Sammy Duval/Superstar Studios building used to be.
At Downtown Disney West Side, a look at construction at Bongo's Lawn which is being turned into Food Truck Park.  Activity here seems to be moving at a slower pace than active on the Island.  At the rear a good look at parking garage construction.  Big thanks to reader Hayley for sharing this with us!!!

  1. Well, I guess the good news really here is that they definitely appear to have finished with the demolition. So buildings we care about look like they will survive - even if they will be used for less entertaining purposes in the future.

  2. Thought I would let you know...now Atlantic Dance is charging a cover on all nights...not just karaoke nights. The place was extra dead last night and they even seemed to expect it with one bartender. I smell another PI sabotage plan in the works!

  3. Mannequins/8TRAX are secure but the fate of the BET and Adventurers Club buildings are less certain.

A cover charge at ADH? Hardly anyone goes in there when it's free. Keep in mind that the Blog previously did an article stating that the contract with the Swan/Dolphin to provide a nightclub supposedly expires this year. Maybe Disney is testing the water on running the place in the post-contract era. But unless they start advertising the place and change the current format, there's not much hope for the place.

  4. I wonder what else they'll could do with ADH if they close it as a club?

Yet more convention/wedding venue space which stands empty most of the time I assume?

Or maybe just demolish it and build some more DVC resort space there?

  5. what on earth are they doing! sabotage indeed! There's no logical reason to do that.

  6. ADH is already available as convention and wedding space but it's super-expensive because it's so huge. And it sits idle until 9pm every night. My guess but a cover charge has to be an attempt to turn it into a profit center in a post-contract environment.
