I went through the official Blog archives last night and found my very first visit here in January, 2009, about 3 months after Pleasure Island clubs closed. What I discovered was an incredibly beautiful art deco dance club that was nearly always empty. I questioned management about it over several visits and learned that ADH was built and operated by Disney for the nearby Starwood Swan and Dolphin Hotels. The contract required Disney to operate a night club for those resorts. But apparently the contract didn't require Disney to also promote the place. And because Disney didn't want the 2am noise on their boardwalk that is associated with closing clubs, they didn't. |
Is Disney trying to ban the word "Nightlife"? Not sure what's in the water over there...
ReplyDeleteTell me about it. It's like the evangelicals have invaded Disney.
ReplyDeleteThey are happy to let Universal take over that line of business as well.
ReplyDeleteIn fairness, building a mini-nightclub district with limited parking literally right outside deluxe resort rooms was a dumb move.
ReplyDeleteShould've been accessible from the EPCOT parking lot.
71, it's nowhere near the EPCOT parking lot. But I agree, it would have been be hard to have put the club in a more difficult to reach spot.
