PI Update: Disney Springs Concept Model
Save Pleasure Island Blog reader Ken S. has brought to our attention this new video posted to YouTube from Jeff Lange Video and MouseSteps. A Blog reader last week posted links to the Disney Springs 3D concept model that was on display at the recent D23 Conference. This video above scans that entire board and zooms in at various sections. It's easy to pause the video too when you want to study it in more detail.
This is really fascinating. The building that replaces BET Soundstage looks a lot like a church. The Adventurers Club building looks like a 2-story building since the lower level becomes exposed by the elimination of the Island's hill. That temporary bridge they're currently building must really be temporary because it's not there on the board. Do you see anything else? (Thanks, Ken!!)
Something weird here, Bob. At :22 through :42 you can clearly see that there are no buildings between what will replace CW and MDP. Then at 1:56, 2:02, 2:23, 2:29, 2:33 you can see that there are buildings in the model. What do you make of that?
ReplyDeleteit looks like they are flattening out the Island!! I am assuming that buildings in color are new and white buildings are existing. If you look carefully you can see that there is no height to the model and buildings like Mannequins and Avigators are taller than they are currently. Comedy ,Adventures Club and BET are gone even the relatively new bathrooms next to BET are gone.
ReplyDelete"What do you make of that?" well I make of that is the PLANS got changed! like I told you Disney has no set in stone plans! if you think what you see in the links u saw are going to be 100% 90% or even 75% will are sadly mistaken!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure they are flattening it out? I think this is just built to show the buildings and the height of the buildings. It isn't showing the grades and elevation changes.
ReplyDeleteJeff, Wow,you are right. The area is empty early in the video while later on 8TRAX and Curl are definitely still standing there. My theory: The early part of the video (has background noise) was filmed at D23 and is the latest plan. The second portion of the film, which has no background noise, was filmed at the unveiling of Disney Springs last spring in that upstairs room in Splitsville.
ReplyDeleteRegarding flattening of the Island, that seems to be the case. The current DTD Guidemap also makes it appear that the hills are going to be removed.
As for plans changing, of course plans change. The current plan has 8TRAX being demolished and Mannequins remaining. (as a building)
The models look interesting, but it seems that they need to fix up 8Trax, and Mannequines since they have'nt been torn down yet.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I repeat again It's so sad to see P.I. so empty, compared to what it was 8 years ago.
I went to Beautiful Pleasure Island today to check out what's going on there & can you believe that there wasnt any sign anywhere on that property that mentioned Disney's Springs any where? Do you know why?
ReplyDeleteYou bring up a very good point, Richard. You'd think that there would be some "Coming Soon" signs somewhere. Nothing.
ReplyDeleteI saw in a recent speech that Tom Staggs was giving - not sure if it was the D23 thing or not but he said "due to our continued success at Downtown Disney, despite the closing of the clubs on Pleasure Island". My guess is that the "coming soon" signage is a low priority if Mr. Staggs' comments is their attitude.
