PI Update: West Side Story

Beautiful afternoon, beautiful Island.
But this day we're going to remain on the West Side.  This is the area called the "Park Stage" where Pleasure Island's evening entertainment has migrated to.
With demolition walls now up around Comedy Warehouse and Laffers Cantina, it was necessary to move the various bands performing on the Island.  Hope to make it out here soon to see actual performances.
Splitsville management informs us that Thursday night's "castmember night" is doing well and that it's currently the only night to find a DJ playing there.  You'll recall that when SV first opened they had DJ's on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.  But that was short-lived.  (Maybe because the music wasn't very good.)
Disney recently filed more permits with Orange County for additional construction office trailers to join this one out in the Q-Lot.  While Hyperion Wharf resulted in the demolition of two dance clubs but no new construction, Disney Springs is most definitely coming.  What's coming in the way of adult entertainment remains to be seen!

  1. I'm getting the feeling based on everything I've read on the blog and on Disney's blog that adult entertainment will be at the West Side, not The Landing. Any thoughts? Still don't see why they couldn't re-open Mannequins at least.

  2. Sorry, don't mean the west side as in the park, just meant the West End in general.

  3. Yeah, whatever we get might be in what is now DTD West Side. I think what is now Pleasure Island and will in the future be The Landing will be mostly restaurants.

  4. I think (hope?) DD management is still tweaking the locations and logistics for the relocated live musicians, particularly those that have been relocated/relegated to the "park stage," which some published brochures actually refer to as the Bongo's Cuban Cafe lawn. There is no stage/platform, the acoustics are poor, and it seems that they have been asked to quiet their act in terms of volume because of Bongo's. I'm here on Saturday tonight and it's slightly better than when I was here Thursday night when I was literally standing in front of Drey-C while he was talking and could not hear a word. Hopefully some of these acts can move to the main stage at the Marketplace like last Summer. I noticed tonight Nova Eva was using the space where the human statues used to stand, when earlier in the week they shared the space in front of Fulton's with the gypsy guitar guy. Seating is also lacking at the "park stage" and, while they added a temporary pop-up liquor stand, the whole setup is lacking......especially considering how long managemrnt has had to plan for these moves. With little effort they could've relocated the two stages from PI to the "park stage" or maybe even use the grassy space previously occupied by Motion and RRBC.

  5. Thanks for your report. I think the Waterside Stage in Marketplace offers the best solution if DTD is willing to give up the Kid's Dance Party or run it earlier. It seems to be a great location and has sound and lighting equipment in place. Seems odd that they didn't move one of the actual Purple/Green stages from PI to Bongo's lawn. Hope to check it out soon.

The grassy area where Motion and RRBC previously stood is not a practical location because it too will soon be a construction zone.
