PI Update: Mannequins Construction Permit

CLICK ON IMAGES TO ENLARGE  Walt Disney World Resort filed a Notice of Commencement with Orange County last week for roofing work atop Mannequins Dance Palace.  Details are not given about what contractor, CIRSCO of Riverview, Florida near Tampa, is going to be doing.  The company's website describes them as a roofing assessment, maintenance, repair and reconstruction contractor.  The permit has a 1-year validity period so this appears to be a large project, whatever it is.

This is yet another signal that the Mannequins building is not going to be torn town.  First of all, the Blog reported years ago that the power grid for everything on Pleasure Island is located at the rear of the Mannequins building.  That supposedly made it impossible to tear down without building a new power grid elsewhere first, a huge expense that just could not be justified.  Second, Disney Springs concept art released last month clearly showed the Mannequins building standing there, just as Hyperion Wharf concept art did a few years ago.  And now we have this; roof repairs would make no sense on a building slated to be demolished sometime in the next couple years.  So it appears that the Mannequins building will live on afterall, for what purpose we don't know.  But the Blog has long-stated that the building's design has little use but as a club.  And there's new Downtown Disney management in charge now that seems to recognize what the Walt Disney World Resort is lacking the most!  Keep dreaming!

  1. that's nice BUT one problem with this the last pic shows RRBC still there!! HMM?
    how real is this?
MY POINT! if this is to be real then Disney would have taken out the RRBC out of the drawings don't you think?

  2. oh and the OLD PI LIVE both and walkway have been gone so why would they still be in there? got to wonder? a late Aprils fools joke? either way I have to say it is not real! again I heard Mannequins is coming down! and yes DISNEY can do whatever they want even with the old powergrid! it is not IMPOSSIBLE to take down a building with out moving the powergrid!

  4. The concept art for The Landing at Disney Springs does not show the RRBC building or the old PI Live booth. So I have no idea what you're ranting about.

  6. The plans are dated 11/12/12 so clearly they are correct. Most likely they are using old information since the work focuses on an existing building which still exists. The other structures around it don't really matter

  7. Why would you site old abandon plans ? I don't get it.

  8. If they fix up Mannequins than they can fix up 8Trax, and have two good nightclubs for drinking and dancing.
Hope they have construction crews repair both clubs.

  9. Anon at 8:42pm, you posted a link to the Mannequins construction permit. Yes, that's an old plan and shows the old RRBC building and the old shopping building where Paradiso is now.

  10. Anon @ 11:30 PM yes to show Kingbob and others what I am talking about.
to show that this is a OLD drawing WHY would they use an OLD drawing? when I am sure they have new ones.

  11. Since that Notice of Commencement pertains to roofing work on top of Mannequins, it was ok to use an old drawing for that permit because the site of the work, the Mannequins building, has not changed. Last year when they issued a similar permit for fire safety work inside the building, they used the same old drawing. Mannequins itself has not changed. Zulemara (above) makes the same point.

So I'm not sure what your point is. Yes, that plan shows part of the old RRBC building. So what? I don't think there is any doubt that the RRBC building is not there anymore.

    2) Accept the Terms

    3) Input 3/26/2013 for both dates in the date range. Input the words WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT in the Either Party field; Select Exact Match. ENTER.

4)You'll see several permits from Disney including one that says PLEASURE ISLAND MAN...
