Club Report: Splitsville Opening Day

It used to be that you'd have to cross the bridge onto Pleasure Island to have fun.  Now it's necessary to cross the bridge off of Pleasure Island!
Opening day at Splitsville last night!  They managed to open in "Fall, 2012"!
Bowling here.
Bowling there.
Bowling Bowling everywhere!
A SV employee told me that this is the DJ "booth" area.  They will have DJ-driven music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights beginning tonight (Thursday night).  This is where DJ PopRoXxX was operating from during the recent pre-opening Media Day.
The view in front of the DJ area is of a tiled floor area near the main upstairs bar.  This can definitely serve as a dance floor.
From the floor looking up at the DJ booth area.
And another view of what could be the dance floor.  I did not see any special lighting above this area though so we'll soon know if what I was told is correct.
There is an outdoor patio bar upstairs in the front corner of the building.
And directly below it, an outdoor patio bar downstairs too!
Splitsville's very first live entertainers!  They were working at the downstairs patio.  Inside, the place was already jammed enough that they were turning people away who just wanted to take a look. Overall, the place is very, very impressive and you won't need to be into bowling to enjoy the place!

  2. Very nice! And they missed this year's tourist season but were able to make the opening in "Fall" which according to my Google search ends on Thursday, December 20th, 2012. It was a squeaker. I'm looking forward to seeing Splitsville.

  6. You can do a decent amount of bowling in an hour. For a new venue, that's not a bad price and it is inside the world of Disney.

As for the Dj, I say give 'em time to get it together. We'll wait and see.

  7. If you don't piddle you should get a minimum of 2 games played in one hour with 2 people playing.

  8. I was only concerned with the club aspect during my visit so I did not check into prices. But Zulemara has posted that info.

I don't see how you'd have a $200 afternoon. Yes, this is more than the typical bowling alley, but this ain't the typical bowling alley. And it's priced accordingly.

During peak times I believe they're going to have a 1-hour time limit on bowling.

  10. It sounds to me like Splitsville maybe be doing alright so far.
Also I think they're going to see how it does before thinking about maybe reopening some of the clubs at P.I. .

  11. Reopening clubs would be great, and comparatively easy for 8-Trax, Comedy Warehouse, and Mannequins. But sadly not so for Adventurers Club which has been gutted -- unless they re-imagine and rebuild it. Now THAT would be cool.

I'm interested to see how long Splitsville keeps guests occupied on each visit. If you eat/drink/bowl you probably won't spend more than 3 hours there tops. So Splitsville offers comparatively high guest turnover just by the nature of the place. For every 1000 people who walk in, how many can actually go bowling at any moment? So it would make sense to open up some other clubs in the area to handle the dynamic movement of people between points of interest. In other words, there IS a strong advantage to opening more entertainment venues around Splitsville.

  12. Splitsville as a concept is something that Disney imagineers used to come up with and Disney would then execute. It's over the top and sure to impress. Now Disney depends on 3rd parties to come up with ideas, lease space and implement them. Whatever comes to Pleasure Island in the future will be similar in that vein. If they can just get someone to sign on.

  13. "Over the top and sure to impress" is very good to hear, I am looking forward to seeing it! Let's hope it starts a trend which helps cause the island to be revitalized. I keep imagining an eclectic collection of different fun and interesting things to do. But then I immediately come to thoughts of the very successful and money-making combination of clubs, shops, restaurants, etc. which is called CityWalk, heh... Thanks for the reports, Bob.

  14. Uber'interested in this DJ Dance Floor. Will theme nights be on the docket: 70's/80's, EDM/Club, etc???

  15. Tightglove, I think the DJ/dance floor thing is very much a work in progress. They may try out a lot of different music concepts, trying to see what draws people. Last night the music did not draw dancers but the bars were full. But one can't draw any conclusions yet either as we're still "off-season" and it was cold out there. Lots of potential though and I think testing out an 80's Night seems viable.

  16. Splits ills is not a Disney concept. They are a franchise of 5 locations, closest next location is in Tampa
