Any chance we can substitute the word "techno" for EDM or just "Dance"?
ReplyDeleteTechno is a very specific subgenre of dance music and it's not usually what you mean when you keep mentioning it on here.
Most of the time, you're referring to house music but since we can't just call it that for some reason, EDM is better than Techno.
Just sayin... ;)
I hear ya and don't disagree with your premise. It's an issue I've struggled with. I actually do use the terms EDM and House and Dance quite a bit. I'm also aware that "Techno" does indeed refer to a specific genre of Electronic Dance Music.
ReplyDeleteMy dilemma is more than half of the Blog's readers are not into the music scene and don't differentiate between House and Dance and Trance and Breaks and Techno and so on. To them, all that "electronic music" is techno music.
"Techno" has always been a generic term for electronic music. Blog weekly column "This Weekend In Techno Town" refers to Orlando in that light, as a long-standing hub of Electronic Music, not a place to find the genre Techno.
Mannequins was known as the "techno club" at Pleasure Island, perhaps not by music experts but by the general population. The "Unofficial Guide to WDW for Grown-Up's", for instance, referred to Mannequins as a "technopop" club.
I do appreciate your opinion on the matter and will keep it in mind.
If they see it listed as "Techno" on your site, that reinforces the incorrect name.
ReplyDeleteJust call it dance music... ;)
