PI Update: Slow Season Has Begun

Just last weekend the place was buzzing with people and empty parking spaces were a rarity.  But that's over now as Pleasure Island reverts to its slow season which runs from now into November.
Behind the construction walls, the former home to Rock'n'Roll Beach Club and Motion.  The Disney Guidemap still refers to this area as "For Future Enjoyment."  LOL.
Adventures Club is still there, empty but waiting.....for something.
Much more hidden is Soundstage Club.
But we know its there and it's the only club with a sign still standing!
Over on the PI entry sign adjacent Mannequins, an advertisement has been posted for the Phineas and Ferb & YOU virtual character experience which has been added to the West Side.
It refers to this new attraction. As there were no kids around, did not get to see how it works.
Also on the West Side, Characters In Flight remains closed pending resolution of their balloon problem.  You'll recall that a crash in Hong Kong of a similar balloon from the same manufacturer has grounded the Aerophile fleet worldwide.
Looks empty without it.

  1. Ah, the lake looks so muck nicer without that horrendous flying eyesore.

  2. I wonder if Disney gives "lessons" to its cast members on how to respond when a guest dares to mention Pleasure Island. I was in a Disney Hotel bar a few days ago and mentioned that I missed PI, the bartender said 'well, we don't know how much trouble there was at that place, must have been lots of trouble.' I replied that I went there regularly for well over a decade and I never, once saw any 'trouble'. He just walked away to wait on another guest. WTH???

  3. Usually when I say anything about it to a cast member (especially a bar tender) they look to the heavens with a dreamy expression and say something like "Ah, I miss Pleasure Island. One of the worst decisions this company has made.". I have yet to meet a cast member who didn't like PI.

  4. For the most part CMs can choose what they say about PI. Some really believe they were nasty, dirty, drug infested clubs. Those are the kool aid drinkers. There might be more of a "company line" from CMs who work at DTD, but outside of DTD, I'm not aware that management would specifically address it with CMs

  5. During a recent visit I went up to a PI CM (actual Disney employee) and acted puzzled about the PI situation, not letting on that I probably already knew more than he/she did. The response was "there was a plan and they axed it and I doubt that they have any idea what they're going to do next."

So I doubt there have been any lessons on how to address it. I think those that were around when PI was open are just as frustrated about it as we are, because they remember how great it was. Those newer CM's that weren't around have only heard negative rumors and that's what they repeat.

  6. IF any CM walked away from me like that I would contact Disney and tell Disney HOW RUDE he/she was! and not say I said anything about PI! just the rudeness. Disney doesn't like that!

  7. The Aerophile balloon at Disneyland Paris is up and running again, so strange that Characters In Flight isn't.

  8. Both balloons were scheduled to be replaced this year, regardless of the Hong Kong crash, and orders had already been placed to the manufacturer. If the one in Paris is now operating it's because the replacement model was ready to go.

The one in Florida was not scheduled to be replaced until November and the replacement was not supposed to be finished until then. I know that because of what happened in Hong Kong, they're trying to speed-up the schedule. But November would be the latest that it would become operational.
