Club Report: B.B. Kings (Service Industry Night)

B.B. Kings Blues Club at Pointe Orlando.  No one has dared take on House of Blues Service Industry Night..... until now!
And they're doing it with a couple Orlando institutions.....the first one DJ Jimmy Joslin (Vixen, EDC-Orlando, House of Blues SIN, Hard Rock Live)!
This is the third weekend of the event; we're told a huge crowd of around 600 came out for the opening but then just a small crowd last week due to rain.  Tonight it looked like around 200 overall.
The dance floor never got jammed but at least a few groups congregated!
A juggler/performer added to the entertainment while Joslin played some Breakbeats!
He opened his set with a lot of 00's Classic Dance, the stuff you would have heard on WPYO 95.3 Party back in the day and then moved on to very current House/Dance songs.  Pretty good sound system in here.
You can never go wrong with go-go dancers!
Sorry this came out a bit blurry.  Even the staff was getting into the music!
The other Orlando institution, DJ Magic Mike (House of Blues SIN, Antigua) with Joslin, getting ready to take over at 12:30am!
The changeover.  Magic Mike will still do holiday weekends at HOB!
Can't have a party without stiltwalkers!
Magic Mike continued with more Top 40/Dance.  Great night for music at BBK's but with a well-established competitor over at Downtown Disney, it's going to be tough road.  Service Industry employees get in free while everyone else is $5, a price advantage.  If they can reach the tourist population in the thousands of hotel rooms nearby as well as all the service industry employees in the same locale, they stand a chance to make this an on-going success.

  1. Thing is, HOB is right on Disney, so it's an easy trip for any cast member who gets off work to head over there. BB Kings, is way down on Idrive.. with the 2am law, by the time you get there, get in, you've got like 1 hour to drink that's it.

If Orlando would get it's head out of it's, you know what, and move to a 4am law, that would help out quite alot!

  2. This could be closer for universal and Seaworld employees and hotel workers.

  4. If you go downtown, they "almost" have a 3am law down there. Sure, drink sales end at 2am but you can continue to consume your drink beyond that time because most clubs stay open until close to 3am. Then they finally boot you out!

That was not the case at Pleasure Island where last call was at 1:30am and lights came on with the boot around 1:45am. CityWalk gives you an extra 10 minutes on top of that. But for maximum party potential, downtown Orlando maximizes your evening.

  5. back in the early years AT PI Disney had a 3am Law. they did "last call at 230 and final last call at 245 am!! close at 3am! I know I was there!
but was pulled back (from the rumors I heard) because the clubs Downtown didn't and complained.

  6. Brian, interesting. I think nowadays there is a general agreement across Orange County that everyone will follow a 2am rule even though any political entity (including the Reedy Creek Improvement District on behalf of the cities of Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake) could legally make their own law.

I believe the last hold out was Eatonville which had a club that was grandfathered in with a later closing time. But even it eventually succomed.

  7. With regards to Brian's comment, I also remember the 3am law back in the day, it also applied to other clubs in the Lake Buena Vista area like the Laughing Kookabarra Goodtime Bar.
