Club Report: Dance The Night Away Party at Magic Kingdom

In honor of Leap Year, the Magic Kingdom was open for 24 hours beginning at 6am yesterday and ending at 6am this morning.  I gave parts of it a try but finally bailed around 5am.  The park was jammed and the most popular rides still had long wait times as late as 3am!  One of the highlights of the overnight hours was the "Dance The Night Away Party" held in front of Cinderella's Castle. (CLICK ON ANY PHOTO TO ENLARGE ALL PHOTOS)
And the dance party was led by DJ Hollywood Bob (Motion, PI Live, Celebrate Tonight, Stitch's Club 626 Dance Party) who was putting out the hits and doing a lot of entertaining from 1am to 5:30am!
The music was a mix of Top 40, 70's Disco, 80's Classics and even some early 90's Classic Dance.
Plenty of line dances including the Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Macarena, Cotton Eye Joe, etc.  They all proved quite popular with the huge crowd on hand, many wearing their PJ's!
Donald & Goofy were in the house!
It was crazy-packed when the music began at 1am and still crazy-packed when I came by at 3am.  It was finally starting to thin-out at 4:30am!
Spotted:  Lou Mongello (WDW Radio), streaming live!
A surprising number of Celebrate Tonight songs got played too and brought back memories of those post-club nights on the Island. Who can forget the 'Hokey Pokey' and 'One Cent, Five Cent, Ten Cent, Dollar' at CT?
Of course this showed once again the huge demand for dance music on Disney property yet the place where dance music had a home sorely lacks it.  Who will be the bold manager that says enough is enough and brings some nightlife back to Pleasure Island?

  1. I will ask again? OK here I ask again?
will you like 1/4 of what 8TRAX,Mannequins,BET or AC once was? and Motion and RRBC gone! I bet the price will be too high! the time has passed when Disney closed PI it was over the next day! now if they did a whole PI rehab and reopened OK but 3 1/2 years later! NOT!
If that is IF they where going to reopen (redo) PI it should be (re)built somewhere else! i still think city walk should have somehow remade there night life to have a 8TRAX kind of club a Mannequins kind of club (the groove is not it) a BET kind of club. motion kind of club ETC..... but city walk will not!

  2. Fine with me if they rebuilt it in a different location, thus (hopefully) doing away with the stroller crowd. That was my first thought when they started talking about Flamingo Crossings ('til it turned out the Mouse completely mishandled that property, too.)

  3. It sounds like the 24 hour idea went along just fine.
Maybe they should try it again, maybe this time it should be on a weekend.
Also you're right about enough is enough, it's time for Diseny to wake up and reopen the clubs at
    P.I. and this proves it.

P.S. Don't let it be another years.

  6. Bob at the MK! I assume you heard what happened at Disneyland?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qysDllMVeCg&feature=related not a great video but I think you can get the gist....wall to wall people so packed that they really could only (barely) hop around. I myself didn't get to party but I walked thru here around this time and thought of PI and all of you

  7. Dr. Unk, sorry to have missed you. I was back and forth between the Party and rides throughout the night.

The night seemed successful to me. Most everything remained open throughout the night. I think a lot of people came because it was a one time deal. If they did it every year, not sure it would be as big. But doing it every leap year? Yes, I think ever four years you have a different set of people. Lots of space to do it too at MK. DL has other issues due to size and proximity to the second largest metro in the country.
