Mannequins Memories: Signs

As most people know, the Mannequins building was originally built to manufacture canvas sails. A large turntable was installed during the 1930's to be able to turn around a steam locomotive Merriweather Adam Pleasure was working on. That turntable ultimately became a revolving dance floor in the late 1980's when the building was converted into a techno dance club.
Pleasure Island was advertised at night on the side of the Mannequins building. Giant spotlights sent light beams into the sky that could be seen from miles away.

Sign by the elevator at front foyer.

Proving that one Mouse hand did not know what the other was doing, this sign greeted guests coming off the elevator onto the 2nd floor by the DJ booth. It was installed just months before the PI closure was announced.

Side patio entrance at Mannequins. Usually used as exit only; this area was also used as the club's smoking area. That Mannequins sign above the door remains in place today. Even perhaps with a new name and a new theme, fans remain hopeful that the club will reopen so the revolving floor can spin again!

  5. Hopefully when they get the revolving dance floor spinning again as well as the rest of the club fixed up, we can all dance and party again.
    Also hopefully they'll fix up
    8Trax as well.

  7. Are you referring to the lighted Mannequins man that was outside the elevator on the 2nd floor? How do they use that at Stitch's Club 626 Dance Party?

I'm guessing you are referring to the LED dots on the Club 626 DJ Booth and previously the MDP DJ Booth sign.

Joe, your analysis (and ability to locate photos) is amazing! You really think those are the same lights?

  10. They look similar. I wouldn't have noticed it if Anon 5:51pm hadn't mentioned it.
